SlayerS_BoxeR
I have joined the client pc to domain, and after creating a folder to share (from the server), on the pc client, i've manually mapped the drive, and was able to see that it worked when i clicked under network. now when i type \\"path", it can't recognize it. anyone knows what the reason is? +BudMan MVC Posted October 21, 2014 MVC Share Posted October 21, 2014 it would be \\servername\sharename to access via unc.

+BudMan MVC Posted October 21, 2014 MVC Share Posted October 21, 2014 well what are you using for name resolution - wins, broadcast, dns what is your node type set too? can you ping the server by name? Can you view the shares - what error do you get? so C:\>ping storagePinging storage.local.lan [192.168.1.8] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 192.168.1.8: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128Reply from 192.168.1.8: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 See how it comes back fully qualified - does yours? What do you get when you do net view \\servername C:\>net view \\storage Shared resources at \\storage Share name Type Used as Comment ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- F Disk Y: Media Disk Z: Molly Disk M: Music Disk The command completed successfully. C:\>net view \\storage.local.lan Shared resources at \\storage.local.lan Share name Type Used as Comment --------------------------------------------------------------------------- F Disk Media Disk Molly Disk Music Disk The command completed successfully. What if you try it by IP address C:\>net view \\192.168.1.8Shared resources at \\192.168.1.8Share name Type Used as Comment-------------------------------------------------------------------------------F DiskMedia DiskMolly DiskMusic DiskThe command completed successfully. what does your node type say for name resolution C:\>ipconfig /allWindows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : i5-w7 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : local.lan Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : local.lan Again what error do you get do you get 53 or 5? Does it ask you for auth when you do \\ipaddress
SlayerS_BoxeR
1. can't ping when i type "ping storage" 2. net view server name - http://i62.tinypic.com/2a9pafs.jpg 3. when i type the ip address instead - http://i60.tinypic.com/34oxbhs.jpg 4. i see that the node type is hybrid 5. when i type \\, doesn't show up even i can see the network share drive http://i59.tinypic.com/23h92yh.jpg
Praetor
sounds like networking issues to me... also: your second image doesn't show what you are trying to say; and the \\: just because you do the \\ doesn't mean it will populate with your server name; it must be cached for it to auto-complete. can you ping the server from the client (IP and FQDN, like win2008r2.local)? is the client and the server in the same subnet, mask and gateway? did you change to domain server name AFTER it was promoted? +BudMan MVC Posted October 23, 2014 MVC Share Posted October 23, 2014 "1. can't ping when i type "ping storage"" Really dude?? Did you name your server storage like mine?? So you have 2 hares there you should be able to access homeShare and Wallpapershare So your logged into a box called dns2008r2, and your accessing win2008r2.. Can see not much thought went into server names ;) What share name are you trying to access via \\win2008r2.local .local is a horrific choice of a domain name, its single label and .local which apple products use when searching for mdns, etc. what path are you typing "ow when i type \\"path", it can't recognize it." so clearly you can see the shares off \\win2008r2.local, so when you run \\win2008r2.local what do you get?? You should see those shares you see with net view
