Small cockroach problem... Any way to produce a genocide?

Recommended Posts

Neowin community usually come up with some creative and effective methods. So here it goes. I am having this small cockroach problem in my house :x . These tiny bastards tend to appear at night, at the kitchen (Eww). My father did some investigation in Amazon and purchased some kind of pill caps. These were supposed to eradicate them, but they've turned to be ineffective.

Fumigating hasn't solved the issue either.

Is there any good method to blast them? We haven't found the root of the problem nor where they come from :/ The pricks manage to go unreachable (for us humans) places.

BTW, sorry if the title is gross (I hate to death these insects). And thanks for any future response :)

there are many good options with gels, and special traps.

pill caps are crap that does not work. cockroaches are too smart for that crap.

there are a few homemade oil and onion traps that worked for some people i know, but i have to find the correct way to do it.

PS.

where do you live?    does it get cold? if nothing else works, you can freeze, but you are risking water and gas pipes damage. and it has to be -10c

after that, every cockroach and their larva is dead.

Diatomaceous Earth. It's supposed to kill any nonflying insect with exoskeletons. You can look up all sorts of stuff about it. Food grade diatomaceous earth costs like 20 bucks for a 10 pound bag on amazon. However, you'll have to put up with having chalk dust and dead cockroaches everywhere

i was having a problem in my old apt. well most of the units were having problems. mostly in the kitchen.

pest control came in and said they like a source of water thats why i always seen them around the sink.

they used this syringe type thing that put out a brown paste. they put it where the roaches would find it.

areas around the stove, the sink, under the sink in the cupboard. by the pipes under the sink and in the bathroom too.

my upper cupboards where they attach to the wall and under and around my stoves hood fan

they just put little dabs. in a few days they were almost no roaches, and in a week i never seen one again.

they came back a month later to check some glue traps they had setup to see if there was any activity and if there was they would put out a little more goo

i tried setting up glue traps myself and did catch several but it did not stop them.

my suggestion would be to use a pest control professional. they have access to the best stuff which is better than what you can buy in the store.

and they dont have to spray at least no spraying was done with me

you dont have to live with it it can be fixed

I live in the Dominican Republic. Usually temperature is 30 - 34?C = 86F -  93.2F. And, doesn't cold preserve the Larva, instead of killing them?

When all else fails, call a professional.  An exterminator may cost a some money, but by the time you buy everyone's recommendations, you will probably be out the same amount of cash.  Not to mention the frustration of having those little bastards running around crapping on everything.

There is no such thing as a small cockroach problem. I know a guy that works at a local pesticide place and he has stated that for every 1 cockroach you see, there are 50 hidden. I second the diatomaceous earth. I have used it in a house we moved into that had an infestation and within a week they were gone.

That's not how it works at all. Cold kills insect larvae unless they've evolved some sort of way to compensate/resist it. Freezers are good for preserving dead things, not living things.

There's a reason I never saw a cockroach once in the 20 years I lived in Upstate New York. Had to put up with hellacious winters (-40-45 degrees C) but at least we didn't have much problem with insects.

When I was younger we lived in rental houses and unknowingly moved into a house that was infested with roaches. So many that you couldn't even lay your drink down and not have a roach in it after a few min.

None of the sprays and such worked. had to deal with them for over 5 years at least. This was 20+ years ago so maybe the methods to get rid of them have improved.

Honest truth, the only thing that got rid of the roach problem was burning the house down. Never had a roach since, but we did have to start over since we lost everything. Worth it!

Burn your house down!

I live in an Apartment, and in my country electricity bills are out of the world! No Air Conditioning on the normal day use!

In my house, we call to "exterminators". But seems that they dance with the insecticide.

I've been checking the Diatomaceous Earth, and it seems to be good (If you learn how to apply).

I think I should combine both approaches. I need them gone. I started having this problem a couple of months ago. I've been looking on how to apply Diatomaceus Earth. Let me see how this goes. I'll be ordering it tonight.

Just to add. I live in an Apartment (9th floor), and they seem to come from other floors. I've seen that these methods shall keep them at bay.

Then you need to bomb the whole building at the same time. When you bomb an apartment, they roaches will move to another floor and then come back when the smoke clears.  I would contact the owner of the building.

I will try with the distomaceous earth! Will let you know how it goes.

Dude, if you do not do the whole building, they will always come back.   Why I said contact the owner of the building.  If they dont do anything about it, then move or you will always have to deal with those things.   Treating 1 apartment out of many is not going to work.  They are cockroaches, not ants or wasps.

Thanks! I misunderstood your second post. I think you were joking.

Nonetheless, in my case there is no "owner of the building" (In case you mean the building administrator, then yes, there is one). There's one apartment per floor. What I'm going to do is to contact the upper and bottom floors, to see if they also have that problem. Maybe it's bigger than we think, as xrobwx mentioned. The problem can be that they are climbing over a broken pipe very far from the building, or breeding somewhere else.

And now that you mention it... The upper floor, the 10th, has been desolated from a long time now... Maybe, there's where the root of the problem resides.

The whole building needs to be treated.  If you  can get everyone together and get a time to bug bomb the whole place at once, that is best.  Just dont waste your money on treatments that are not going to work, or that the administrator of the building should be paying for.  Also, you obviously will not be able to go back to your apartment until the smoke clears....so make sure you have something to do for several hours.

My dad owns several duplexes.  He bombs both floors at the same time.  If he bombs the top floor only, the roaches will go to the bottom floor until the smoke clears.  And roaches can get in to anything.  If there is a crack or a small opening someplace, no stopping them.

And if you bomb all the floors at once, get ready to come back to possibly hundreds of dead roaches all over the floor and furniture.  So have a dust pan handy.

I got my cockry problem solved by cat.

If you need to hire some cat, try releasing the live cockroach in front of the cat.

If the cat chase it, that cat would do the job well.

If the cat are too lazy, looks for another cat.
