How to "Log off" using new Windows Developer Preview (build 9860)?

Click your name

Whoever decided that at Microsoft should be fired.

It's the least obvious/intuitive thing in the world.

Because you don't click on your name/profile pic elsewhere for logout options? Hell, to sign out of Neowin, you need to click on your display name.

It's the same way in Windows 8.x on the start screen, so in this case it's a consistent UI choice, could change later but for now it's the same between the menu and screen option.

At least make it slightly clear it's a button!

You won't convince me here mate. Even on Neowin, next to your user name at the top right, there is a down arrow!

Your mouse highlighting the name isn't a clear indication it's a clickable item?

Worse than clicking Start to get to the shut down options?

no, because that always used to take you to your user folder

Also, "Run" is missing.

I'll stick with Start8 for the time being.

run has been hidden since vista , windows button & r to bring it up

also surely the search box is equivalent to the run dialog

Wrong, Run was absolutely available in the Windows 7 Start menu. You just needed right-click on the Start button and choose Customize (or something similar).

"Run" hasn't been needed since Vista. the search box acts as "Run"

but it's been hidden & not needed for that matter

Incorrect. The Run command was not available by default on the Start menu in Windows Vista or Windows 7. I assume that this is because the Start Search box served a similar purpose. However, as you already mentioned, the command could be reinstated . . .

What's wrong with the good old shortcuts?  Like Windows-R?

Who the hell signs out of Neowin?

I have, as I access from locations other than home.

Also, who the heck is trying to access run? That's been deprecated for years now.

At least in my hands on 8.1, they've removed the Ctrl + Shift shortcut to launch a process with elevated privileges through the Run box. The Start screen continues to handle the shortcut as expected.

Windows 7: You can add Run  command onto the start menu via customize as the poster stated.

Windows 8 and up: Hotkey Win + R... or right click on the button in lower left corner and select Run.

Other way including the mobile devices, they can swipe from the right edge for the charm and select search and go from there.

Also on windows 8, you can right-click the start menu and select either Command prompt, or command prompt admin.  Must better than pre-Windows 8.
