torrentthief
http://www.wps.com/windows/ WPS Office Home $2.99 WPS Office for 1 Month $30 WPS Office for 1 Year 1 licensed user account WPS Office Business $4.99 WPS Office + VBA for 1 Month $50 WPS Office + VBA for 1 Year There is no free version any more :( 30 day free trial though. This is available for Windows/Linux/Ios/Android and is much better than Libreoffice but not as good as Microsoft Office. WPS office was formerly known as Kingsoft Office btw. torrentthief
How is this compared to MS Office? It isn't as good as MS office but is good enough for the majority of users, much cheaper too and available on Linux unlike MS office. The installer is only 56.9mb for the windows installer so you might as well give it a try. Libreoffice is very poor in comparison to this, as libreoffice can't get the layout of many documents correct and this also has a modern U.I which supports tabs too unlike MS office. Studio384
Microsoft isn't complaining because of Office 365... But Office 365 isn't the only Office Microsoft provides, you can still buy the standalone Office 2013. I thought this was based on Open Office / Libre office... How are they allowed to charge for it? Because it is based on an open source project doesn't mean you can't charge for it.

primexx
Microsoft isn't complaining because of Office 365... but now they're a direct comparison against the gold standard that is O365. And at $30/yr the value proposition just isn't there when you get much much more with real Office.

gate1975mlm
Well this really sucks :( I really liked using WPS office 2014 beta and was looking forward to it going final as a free version of course. I think it was by far the best free Microsoft alternative for my wants and needs. I really do not like any of the other free alternatives out there so this is really a bummer. I really don't use office programs that often so I rather not have to pay for one. But when I do need it I want to use a office program that look modern, fast and can open almost everything and WPS office 2014 did that for me. I might just end up paying for Office 16 when that is released because if I am going to be paying for an office suit it's going to be the best which is Microsoft office. I think it is a big mistake for this company to take away the free version.
trala
So where exactly is this information about it not being free? Or where is the information about it being free? Both valid questions, since on Kingsoft/WPS's various sites and overlapping and obsolete pages (?) it is not clear at all what is going on. On this page it says "the world's best free office suite" but on other pages it doesn't. Then I saw mention of a buy option for VBA-enabled versions of WPS Office, but it didn't mention pricing on WPS standard (non-vba support). In short, from the time of Kingsoft Office I have always found their websites and marketing very confusing. Yet, I kind of liked their products. So when I first came upon the WPS Office 2014 site(s) I got the impression that they made the decision to make all their suites free over all platforms (Apple, Windows, Android, etc.). But the wording isn't consistent or clear. Anyway, enough confusion, I still don't understand what is up. A couple of days ago I decided to download WPS Office 2014 beta3. I reasoned (as was the case for Kingsoft Office versions) that the free beta version would not support writing to .docx, .pptx, etc., the MS Office 2007 and up formats. Well, I was very surprised that it does! And it does it well. So there I was, very excited to find not only a free Windows office suite but one that supports docx, etc., and does a good job converting. But now it seems the suite is not free? This is another example of what is essentially a good product, and a product that is served by being perceived as trustworthy, that is diminished by bad/indecisive marketing which ends up tarnishing the trust of the consumer. So yeah, it can convert certain documents rather well and are versatile programs, but what are you signing up for when you're interested in it at this stage? Are they going to revert to their (Kingsoft's) online activation pinging again, which everyone hated? There are only a few companies that can get away with online activation checks and those are the likes of Microsoft and some others (like very specific softwares that are indispensible). I don't think anyone in particuler wants to be pining to a Chinese server all day long.
