Anyone Ever Have To Unroot An Android Phone?

Recommended Posts

I believe I going to unroot my LG G3 Verizon variant phone.

Although plenty of people are reporting that the latest Verizon released update for their phone is installing on their rooted phones, it is not installing on mine. This update itself is not that important, adds a camera lock screen button or something, and in fact a friend of mine installed the update and said it is killing his battery, but I want to know I can install the update if I wanted to.

I rooted my phone a few weeks after it was released for of all the stupid things in the world, to get the Weather Animations working on the lock screen because you know, I could just not look outside the window to see what the current weather was and just had to have those animations. I literally do nothing else with the root. I did it more to see if I could then for any real reason.

Since the release of Lollipop is coming at some point, I really just want to make sure there are no issues getting the update for it.

I found a step by step guide how to unroot.

It seems straight forward.

Really I am looking for any feedback from people who have unrooted and may have had any issues doing so?

Also I am wondering if anyone has any feedback about the site I found the guide on itself. I had never heard of it until I Googled how to unroot last night, so I am also wondering if androidrootz is a reputable site in that scene. Any site that uses a z instead of an s I am immediately suspect of.

I've unrooted a few.. Never had any issues.. The best way would be to reset to factory using the factory ROM image..

You.  And unrooting these days is cake...not a pain it used to be.

Heading out so I don't have much time to chat, but I dug this up Larry, worth a look

http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-unroot-ota-using-lg-pc-suite-pc-t2802286

Yeah I found that as well AB but the interesting thing is the Verizon model is not listed anywhere. The Model # for the LG G3 Verizon is VS985. That says to me that LG PC Suite app does not work with it?

I would love to use this method though as it is SO much simpler than the one I found.

I believe that is what I am doing based on the guide I found. I had to download 4 files total, 2 of which were related to the factory ROM

Back to stock using the guide I posted above from Androidrootz. :punk:

A Verizon LG G3 VS685 in case anyone finds this from Google.

The only difference was for the step to get the phone recognized in the Device Manager under the Coms port, I had to install the Verizon specific LG Mobile Driver file. That file is named LG_VZW_UnitedWHQL_v2.18.0 as of October 31st, Halloween. The version number may change as time goes on.

Installing the OTA update right now as I type this with no issues. Software reads as Original and not Modified.

Was very easy. Here is the accompanying YouTube video as well.

Typically any update will overwrite the root, anway.  The several I've done anyway.  I've never had a phone NOT update because it's rooted.

That is typically the case, and how it has also worked for me in the past, but in a thread at androidcentral there were about 3 other people having the same issue that I was.

It looks like something we had in common was renaming some system files. Still does not make much sense, but we do all have that in common it appears.

There was also speculation it could have been the rooting method that we used since there are a few different ways to get the root done.

I forgot to post before I really have to give credit to Google for how smooth they have made their cloud services overall.

My phone without much interaction from myself at all got itself back to the exact place I was at prior to unrooting within 15-20 minutes of doing the full restore. As soon as I signed into Google, it was just automatic from there. I think I checked off one check box, "Restore from Google" and pretty much everything was back to where it was.

The same process on Apple is nowhere near as smooth, and I know as I have done it on my iPad twice now. Takes much longer, and requires more oversight.

Unrooting?

That's just a option you can select in supersu, just make sure to undo any system file modifications like a modified hosts file by adaway.

After doing that any update should install fine.
