Apple Seeds First OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite Beta to Developers

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite update to developers, nearly three weeks after first releasing OS X Yosemite to the public.

The new beta, build 14B17, is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store and through the Mac Dev Center.

While it is unclear what improvements the first update to OS X Yosemite will bring, there are several bugs in the operating system including a major Wi-Fi issue that has caused connection problems for a number of users.

Apple is asking developers to focus on Wi-Fi, Exchange accounts in Mail, and the Notification Center.

This update has some performance improvements, especially with the UI.

One example, I basically can't use the computer without using screen zoom, and with the transparency turned on under 10.10.0 the UI was incredibly sluggish, almost unusable. It wasn't smooth with the transparency turned off, but it was much better. Under 10.10.1, it's not sluggish at all, even with the transparency turned on.

I was wondering whether or not to install the update. I guess I'm going to install it when I get home.

Seems to be smoother for me too. RAM usage seems to be improved also.
