Macbook Pro Charger

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My sister doesn't want to pay $80 for a new charger if she don't have to. She has a Macbook Pro 13" bought around March of 2011. So I'm guessing the 60W adapter would be good.

What are my alternatives for used/knock offs? Which is the best one? I've been reading tons of reviews but can't make up my mind.

Thanks,

Crazysah

I would never recommend a knock off (unless you really want to risk it catching fire/blowing up).  ebay has tons of used ones though.  and I believe the Macbook Pro uses an 85W for 15in+ models.

I agree with the above. I'd much rather buy a genuine used one over a $20 from China.

I bought the latter for a customer's notebook a few years ago. It (/a capacitor in it) blew up two days after. Taking it apart on revealed a circuit consisting of about 10-15 components only. I decided to buy them a quality replacement unit for the trouble. Sure it cost about 2-3 times more, but at least I didn't have to fork out $1,500 for a new laptop.

Many Chinese notebook charges actually all have the same circuitry internally, with very little safety features, and poor regulation/shielding.

I would also add to not buy any charger from eBay or similar websites, I've ran into several counterfeit chargers/batteries that looked exactly like the original (except minor differences like the screws type, text color, etc.). Just the though of having touched those fake likely only-God-knows-with-which-chemical-infested plastics gives me the chills. One had a piece of wood inside and the vendor kept insisting it was original, too bad I just let it go, I still regret it to this day :(

Also I'd avoid any third-party replacement, even those sold in physical stores or online shops, you never know what crappy electronics might inside.

So her original one lasted from 2011 to 2014. She doesn't want to pay $80 for a charger that will last her another 3 years. That's ~$27 a year. Quit being cheap and buy the proper charger. If you buy a knock off your taking a BIG ######ing risk for being cheap.

You sound like the people that buy cheap usb power bricks and then bitch when they get electrocuted or there house sets on fire.

It's been proven like above that going knock is a HUGE risk. Never go knock with power. Power is deadly
