USA's healthcare?

Recommended Posts

Can someone explain to me what exactly is it about or how it works? I see a lot of topics about it but nothing is actually said how it exactly works. I've heard that people have to "insure" them selves but even those won't cover everything? Also "Obamacare"? Huh?

I mean, we have this system here that every month Your employer pays a certain % of Your salary to Your healthcare fund and any time You need You'll just walk in to an clinic and get what You need, for free. (Of course your salary is already taken into account by that and You'll get a bit less thanks to it but I think it's fair).

For example I've heard stories where USA's citizens can't go into cancer surgery because they don't have insurance? Is that true?

All in all, while Your country being around 500x times (not even kidding) bigger than ours by population why wouldn't that system work for you?

I'm a bit uneducated on that part so maybe someone can help me out..

To be honest there is no simple way to explain US healthcare.  (Please ignore the typical smartass remarks you may have read elsewhere on Neowin, thanks)

Here's a link that can explain some aspects of our system.  http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_the_United_States

Do we need a extensive and major overhaul, yes, in fact we need a completely new, updated system. IMHO

The USA has private insurance which you can buy or get as a benefit from work. These are all highly variable and cost and cover different things up to different amounts with different amounts of co-pays, deductibles or in-network prices and out of network prices.

If you are poor or old you can be covered by Medicare or Medicaid. (not sure how great or how that works)

If you served in the military you get socialized medicine from the VA

Obamacare is a bunch of regulations that regulates the private insurance market among other things, it also sets up subsidies for the poor/middle class to buy private insurance at a reasonable price and expands eligibility for government programs and aid.

You can go to the emergency room without insurance and get "some" level of care that is passed on to people who actually have insurance.

"If you are sick you have to pay for it" is what sums it up
