Austin (Mur) - Front-End Designer & UX Specialist

Hey all,

My name is Austin!

I was dissatisfied with my first introduction and decided perhaps one that actually outlines me as a person is a little more justified.

My name is Austin (Mur) Paquette. I am a 20 year old male with 10 years of Website Development & Design Experience. I began working with markup when I got my first computer (10th birthday) and have been in love with it ever since. This has naturally become a lifestyle and knowing everything about web technologies is what I spend my free time learning about and work hours actually capitalizing on.

I've supported myself through freelance work and recently began to build my online alias into a company name and branded identity. I was recently offered a position by one of my competitors to work for them at the same dollar value annually, but for a fraction of the work. I've worked with a variety of companies over the years. High-Profile, International / Over seas and of course just local or small businesses looking for a touch up on their web-presence. I've spent a lot of my time working with clients and building a strong personal relationship with each one of them.

Below is an ?at-a-glance? look at what I am capable of and familiar with, I've joined the forum community naturally to provide support and just have a positive interaction. I have a significant amount of experienced with IPBoard Skinning and this is still rather impressive work, figured I'd registered and check it out. Always available for support if it relates to something on the list below.

My corporate focus was improving company branding. Including (but not limited to):
  • Typography / Type Face establishment
  • Colour Palette selectors (Hex, RGBA & other colour wheel formats)
  • Logo Design & Revising
  • Letterhead / Paperwork Designs
  • Business Card Layouts
  • Desktop Website Design (1920x1080px) + Retina Counterpart (2x Device Pixel Ratio)
    • Design w/ optional Development
  • Tablet Website Design (1024x768px) + Retina Counterpart (2x Device Pixel Ratio)
    • Design w/ optional Development
  • Handheld Website Design (320x480px) + Retina Counterpart (2x Device Pixel Ratio)
    • Design w/ optional Development
  • Bulletin Board (Forum) Designs
    • Board Index
    • Forum View
    • Thread View
    • Article View
    • Moderator Control Panel View
    • Administrator Control Panel View
    • Unique Web UI Kits (Buttons, Loading Bars, Notification Bars, Ribbons)
  • Advertisement Banners / Sidebar Displays
  • Social Media Images (Facebook Cover Photo, Profile Pictures Twitter Banner Photo, Application Images & Vector-Scalable images)

 >>> On a side note I am currently working on a just-add-water solution for website development and position. It?s a new concept I've created that will help with conditional widget building for websites where the position may be out of the ordinary from the others but eliminates the need to create a new CSS class and generate new parameters. Instead you?d be able to use pre-built classes (within the library) that would achieve the same goal. It could also be used to create full website designs but how useful THAT would actually be is questionable.

I am:
I am familiar with:
  • Hypertext Markup Language
  • Cascade Stylesheets
  • JavaScript
    • aka - JS
    • ~6 years experience
    • jQuery is preferred due to ease-of-use, however experience with Prototype and/or custom written JavaScript is possible
  • Java
    • ~4 years experience
    • Used for Game Development.
    • Content Development - Game Loops and the Core building of games still escapes me.
  • Hypertext Preprocessor
    • aka - PHP
    • ~4 years experience
    • My preferred back-end language.
  • C#
    • aka - C-Sharp
    • ~1 year experience
    • Secondary back-end language, very primitive. I can edit and adjust code; custom written scripts from scratch still challenging for Web-based Development (ASP.NET)
    • Familiar with XNA Game Development Studio package for console development - My primary use of C#.
  • SQL
    • ?SQL syntax.
    • ~4 years (used in conjunction with all back end / game development languages for data storage)
    • Experience with both MySQL and MSSQL.

I generally use:
  • Notepad++
    • This is my primary development environment due to it?s ability to parse all of the languages I typically find myself working with. Very easy to work with alongside in-browser development as a result and it?s lightweight making it the perfect personal option.
  • Visual Studio
    • Used for anything C# related, unfortunately haven?t use it in quite sometime might be a little rusty!
  • Eclipse IDE
    • Primarily used for Java Development however I can use it for some PHP scripts with the appropriate plugins.
  • Adobe Photoshop
    • I?ve been editing images since I started truly designing websites (~ a year after I got my computer). Originally had a pirated version of Photoshop and have since purchased my own license and have constantly upgraded ever since.

I?ve also grasped the concept of:
  • Search Engine Optimization
    • URL Structure & Page Components
    • Content Grouping & Ecommerce Product Display (Indexed)
    • Handling of the Webmaster tools provided by Bing & Google (to be specific)
    • AdSense communication & Universal Analytics (new feature by google)
    • Ability to retrieve assumed demographics from google based analytic tracking
    • Advanced information about website views & goal setting
    • Effective Advertising Campaigns & Meta Keywords / Descriptions

That's pretty much it. I think I'm a pretty rounded individual because you just learn to do a lot yourself when you own and operate a company (or participate in a start up). I did all of the legal work, most of the software documentation and constantly writing news articles for various websites around the web. I keep myself occupied :)

Welcome,

BTW Neowin uses IPB

I'm well aware of that :p I like the forum design, not so much a fan of their new news feed layout though, fell inline with too many other news outlets it seems like.

Hi, and welcome again!

No need to sell yourself here, young lad! But I guess you're hoping Google with make the connection.

Nah, I use the same introduction on just about every forum, but was feeling lazy when I first registered; I didn't use the forum at the time but was so aggravated by a comment on one of the news posts I felt urged to register.
