Yosemite & DNS Issues

Recommended Posts

Ok... So now I've tried everything and it's absolutely driving me nuts.

I've restarted the DNS services, I've flushed the DNS cache, I cleared my DNS structure on my Mac mini server, and I'm out of ideas.

Essentially... this is what's happening:

My host name changes.  Hourly.  On every computer I have running 10.10.  I have to make sure my hostname in the Network prefpane as well as the Sharing prefpane match and don't have any trailing numbers.

My network browser essentially looks like this:

imac1

imac1(1)

imac1(2)

imac1(...)

imac1(20)

imac1

imac2(1)

imac2(2)

imac2(...)

imac2(20)

mbair(1)

mbair(2)

mbair(etc...)

Then, once my host name is changed... I flush the DNS cache and it's back to normal.  It's driving me crazy.  I essentially have to flush DNS cache every 15-20 minutes in order to keep it to the 4 devices that I have.

This is only Mac devices that are affected by this (with the exception of my server... that seems fine ironically).  All of my VM's and Windows devices show up normally.

I researched this a bit, and found that it was a problem in the 10.10 betas, and the recommended resolution was to do exactly what I've been doing.  It's also apparently been fixed in the final versions of 10.10...

Could anyone provide me any help?  Before I totally lose my sanity?

There's lots of threads about this on the dev forums too. As of yet, it just appears to be a bug affecting pre-2014 machines running Yosemite. I don't think there's a resolution yet.

General consensus is that it's something to do with WOL.

I never researched it enough to find out what was happening, but I can chime in and share that my Macbook Pro's (early 2012 model) WiFi has had constant issues since updating to Yosemite. I am constantly either having to turn WiFi on and off, restarting entirely. or rebooting my router. Yet my phone stays constant throughout (LG G3). Hope they figure out the underlying issues.

I had this problem that randomly fixed itself, i was happening every day and now doesn't happen at all :-/

Also Does your fortinet fortigate have something like "airgroup" or whatnot?

My Aruba RAP109 has that kinda service and it could be having issues?
