Assassin's Creed: Unity microtransaction shop wasn't fully live in retail copies

Recommended Posts

Jeff was talking about it on the podcast and assumed/hoped that stuff was somehow a parody of microtransactions because it wasn't clear if you could actually spend real life money on it in the version they had. I think that says a lot about where we're at with this stuff now. They explicitly said that the microtransaction part of it (which they, again, weren't sure was actually a thing when they recorded the podcast) wasn't in the game.

And the pricing you say, $19.99 to $99.99. Yes, a $60 dollar game has an option to spend $100 on currency.

I guess they did warn us in 2012

When asked directly about free-to-play on next-gen consoles from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony, Martinez didn?t back down.

?There will be free-to-play on consoles,? Martinez said. ?But in the future, with games like Watch Dogs, we could see more opportunity for $60 games to learn from the free-to-play model. The next generation will offer more and more item-based content,? Martinez. ?This will benefit our games? profitability.?

So, some games may still cost $60, but they?ll at least have plenty of fun micro-transactions.

Fun microtransactions! I guess the only fun thing about them is the new episode of South Park

And yes there is an AC Unity mobile app... that has microtransactions in it as well.

Makes me even more glad I ditched the series a couple of years ago. Assassin's Creed is now essentially Ubisoft's Call of Duty: the annual cash cow (Ubisoft's probably got two if you include the Just Dance series).

I can understand why Martinez works as the chief financial officer. No one else would call micro-transactions "fun," especially after pointing out that you will still pay the original $60.

I don't know why people buy or play AC. The franchise is notoriously glitchy and rehashed to the same degree as CoD. I received the codes for Unity and w/e else and I can't even sell 'em for cheap...

Between EA, Activision, and Ubi, the gaming industry has lost a lot of integrity and I'm about sick of it.

I was given the codes for Unity and w/e else and I can't even sell 'em...

Due to DRM? Or simply no takers? If it's the latter, would you be up for a trade? I've got a load of surplus game keys from past bundles I wouldn't mind offloading. Hopefully I've got a few that'd interest you.

Ubisoft has been pretty shady with Unity as a whole. First they give a lame reason for no female assassins. Then they openly admit to forcing console parity because, "they didn't want to deal with the arguments" or something. Then they required a review embargo that doesn't lift until half way through launch day. Then they add ridiculous, obtrusive "micro" transactions to the game. And the game runs like sh-- to boot.

I really wish people would stop supporting this crap. But of course it's the new Ass Creed, so it'll sell regardless. And we'll all be worse off for it.

Unused, no takers. PM me the options.

(Y) The industry is in a bad place right now. Half finished games release at full price and later the other half is sold as DLC...

If I were a lawyer, I'd go after the lot of 'em.

Then i'm sure you won't mind sending me one... after all, you can't get rid of them cheap. ;)

As it stands, I'm a firm "non-spender" in games, so Ubi won't see some extra cash from me!

Beats me. I have a friend that has played all of them. He keeps saying how great they are. They all look the same, boring and repetitive to me. I tried watching Unity a bit, and the combat mechanics are exactly the same as the first game. Enemies circle around you and come one at a time and it is so easy even my cats can do it.

If I were a lawyer, I'd go after the lot of 'em.

Don't see what your argument is going to be though.

Don't know too much about unity, but the AC takes a great deal if time to research the history, and background (with some liberties mind you) but provide one of the more accurate historical settings at that time.

If quality goes down too much, or they get too greedy / mishandle micro-transaction, the above may not save it.

I couldn't reminded me of Skyrim / Obilvion... without the open full rpg experience.
