Unlocked 2014 Moto Gs can download their Lollipop update now

If you were thinking that a high-end handset or a Nexus would be the first device to get the Android 5.0 update, guess again: as far as we can tell, the $179 second-generation Moto G is the first phone to receive a final version of the update. Other phones, including the second-generation Moto X and the LG G3, have made steps toward a Lollipop update, but the Moto G appears to be the first device to move beyond the testing phase. Our unlocked US version of the phone is downloading its 386.7MB Lollipop update now.

Motorola's "Moto" phones are known for their relatively clean, "stock" versions of Android, and as such the official release notes for the Moto G's Lollipop update focus mostly on things that will be coming to all Moto and Nexus phones that will get Lollipop. High on the list are the new "Material Design" UI, lock screen notifications, multi-user support (brand-new to phones, though it was introduced to Android tablets in version 4.2), and the "Project Volta" battery life enhancements.

Nice.  Means shouldnt be to long for the rest of the Moto phones.

I know!!! I just got a Moto G 1st gen. 2 days ago. for $99 off contact. I'm really liking the smaller screen. I came from a SIII. 4.5 is easier to navigate 1 handed. The phone is snappy as ######. It's crazy.

Depends on the size of your hands.

I am also assuming that after the LG G3 gets L, the G2 wont be far behind.

I got a Moto G 1st gen on boost mobile for $69 at my local Walmart.  The great part about the Boost Moto g, is the bootloader is unlockable.  It is about the perfect screen size and reminds me so much of my beloved galaxy nexus, but faster.  The fact that I paid so little for it, is crazy

The Moto G 2nd gen has had it's Soak test captured......can't be much longer for us 1st gen Moto G and X users.

So far there has been Zero hesitation when navigating the phone. Apart from maybe 1 or 2 seconds when opening facebook app, but that apps a hog.

I get some lag here and there, but that probably has more to do with having DSB on in my rom plus having xposed going, it's nothing too bad though.  It for sure is the best deal you can get on a phone right now, period.  Fits all my needs, and I couldn't be happier.  Lollipop is only gonna make this thing better.

/Praetor checks on it's new, pristine Moto G 2014.... still KitKat.

btw: coming from a Samsung Ace (1st gen), this phone is light years ahead. Very happy with it (and the fact that i bought on a fire sale on Amazon, where the price dropped 40? for a couple of hours  ).
