Reminders

These are U.S. only RETAIL sales. They are not global, they do not reflect software downloads.
Bundles count only toward hardware sales, not software.
The platforms in parenthesis are ordered from most sales to least. So for example NBA 2K15 sold the most copies on PS4, followed by Xbox One, followed by 360, etc.

Software

1. NBA 2K15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
2. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (3DS)
3. The Evil Within (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, 360, PC)
4. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (360, PS3, PC)
5. Destiny (360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)
6. Skylanders: Trap Team (360, Wii, Wii U, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, 3DS, mobile)
7. FIFA 15 (PS4, 360, PS3, Xbox One, Wii, PS Vita, 3DS)
8. Madden NFL 15 (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One)
9. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4, XBox One, PC)
10. Minecraft (360, PS3, PS4)

Wait, Destiny sold more on the 360 than any other console in Oct? Wow, that seems strange.

The trend continues though that most multiplatform games sell better on ps4. Not shocking considering the unit lead and is a good hint as to the console sales for October.

Good month for games though. November will be even bigger.

Keep in mind that 1 in 5 Destiny sales are digital so are not counted here. I suspect people who already had PS4s when Destiny came out and wanted it already got it last month. If you don't have a PS4 though then the Destiny Bundle is probably big but is only counts toward hardware sales so that could have contributed to PS winning hardware again in October.

What I find interesting is the number of times the 360 beats the Xbox One. Besides Destiny where the 360 beat everyone this month the 360 beat Xbox One in Skylanders, FIFA, and Madden as well. I guess it makes sense with the larger 360 install base but it just seems odd to see the prior gen console beat the next gen almost a year after launch on new software sales.

November and December are going to be HUGE. With the recent price cut and Sunset Overdrive MS has a solid chance of winning November finally. Some will say what does one month mean when Sony won 10 but all months are not created equal and winning November and December could potentially make up for several months of losses during the much slower summer months. Sony has big plans for Black Friday and the PlayStation Experience in early December but those are too late for November numbers. I think MS may well win November but December will be MUCH tougher.

No real surprise that Destiny has taken sales lead on 360. It's the perfect game for the install base.

I expect MS to win November and December purely for the sales cuts. Sony have dropped to ?300 in the UK, but without the AAA exclusives I doubt it'll be enough.

Shame that none of the AAA exclusives for all 3 platforms have not charted yet, but hopefully the digital sales are strong enough to warrant sequels.

Yeah its weird seeing the X1 and ps4 get beat out by last gen consoles, but maybe it is just the larger install base. Plus, we might easily forget that the ps3 and 360 are still in very heavy use among most gamers. Your talking somewhere around 20-22 million next gen owners worldwide while there were easily over 130 million 360/ps3 owners. So while next gen is doing well, its still not nearly as large.

I think these two months could be good for all three console makers, but MS might be the biggest winner if their game lineup is popular enough.
