Windows 10 Aspect Ratio Issues

Recommended Posts

I am currently on a VirtualBox VM with a widescreen monitor. My host machine uses the Intel HD 4600 driver for the display and the Generic PnP for the Monitor. It is running Windows 8.1.  Windows 10 (virtual machine) uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. It displays really stretched out in 4:3 instead of 16:9. Anyway to fix it? I tried searching Windows Update, to no avail and my dual boot also has this issue, where Windows 10 stretches 4:3 out to 16:9 for some reason.

Can someone find a Virtualbox driver?

It's more than likely a Virtualbox problem that will be patched closer to Windows 10's RTM. Microsoft probably tweaked something on their end that's causing this glitch. I'm surprised you managed to get it working at all. If I remember right, During the Windows 8 TP, virtualization was broken and BSODed with a HAL error. Just be patient or try VMware. Good luck!

Hi There

I just upgraded from win7 to win10 and have the same problem.

The display fits perfectly on my laptop screen but when I display it on my TV the display is bigger then the screen and I can't fix it by changing the resolution.

Win7 had a software solution with the Catalyst program that let you change how far out the display was but there is no such program or app I can find for Windows 10.

Any help will be appreciated.

I also have the same problem, i can not see the close icon or any of my taskbar. how long do you think it will take for them to repair this? as it's sufficient enough of a prolem for me to return to windows 8.1

You can consider installing a testbuild which probably has already a fix implemented: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds

Okay so i fixed the problem for myself.

1. Go to control panel

2. Find display settings

3. Find "Adjust resolution" (left hand side)

4. Select the monitor that has the problem

5. Click "Advanced"

6. Go to the very last column (at the top) that should be your graphics settings

7. on this page, find the "Scaling" drop box

8. Select "Customize Aspect ratio" and set it to your preferences.
