1 and half week old laptop, battery wear...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have a brand new Acer Aspire E5-572G laptop since 10 days and it's battery wear already shows 9%... I lost 5k mAh from the battery capacity in a week... is this normal? I made 2-3 full charge and battery drain (calibration) when I got it (manual recommended it) and since then I basically used it only with powercord plugged in. Faulty battery? What should I do? :/

edit: I checked battery wear on first day, it said 0% and full mAh capacity.

What is telling you this info ?

2 things come to mind:

Why on earth did you buy anything that says Acer
If it says Acer its bad

I guess the only way to know for sure is to continue to monitor and see if it keeps dropping - then RMA
Ask for an RMA now
Do a real world test -- how long it takes before it dies, then compare in a couple of weeks, or when the degradation changes again.

I checked it in aida64 but with the "powercfg -energy -output c:\test.html" command says the same too. The battery original capacity is 55944mAh and now the full charge only produces 50882mAh. So ~10% lost.

Btw I checked and it have 1year battery warranty (I need to send them the battery in mail or it says something like this)

edit: I just finished a recalibration and it says 6 hours left with 99%. It never said this much till now lol. It always said ~4 hours. But still 9% wear showing. Oh well... if it wears to 20-30% in a few weeks then I'll send the battery back or something...

Also depends on what you have open and what you are doing, screen brightness......  So keep an eye on that while measuring battery life.  And OEMs warranty their batteries for 1yr standard.  If you need more, then most OEMs offer extended battery warranties.

As far as Acer is concerned, they are known for a cheap plastic feel.  But most of their reviews are pretty good.  And the Acer Aspire E5-572G got some pretty good reviews.  So wouldnt worry about that.

And sometimes batteries just die.  I have had batteries last years, and some last a few months.  Like any hardware component, you can get lemon or bad batch.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll just use it as I wouldn't saw this wear thing (a "normal" user would not even check these kind of things) and hoping it's not getting 20% wear after 10 days from now :D

Another good idea is to NEVER buy the lowest price product unless there's no choice. Source: using a Lenovo that went laggy in less than a year.(Bought in May)
