Zoom7000
My friend has a Mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro (5,5) and it comes built in with 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB). I just updated it to Yosemite as it was still on Snow Leopard and now I have lost 1 slot of RAM. It seems this is a common issue as there seems to be a lot of threads about it on Apple's Communities and other forums via a Google Search. The problem is that I have tried all those temporary "fixes" and tried resetting the PRAM / NVRAM and SMC and not had any luck with either. Reseated the RAM, tried different sticks, freezing everything and nothing works. The MacBook just won't see Bank 1 of RAM. It's well out of warranty, is there anything I can do to resolve the issue? It's highly unlikely to be worth replacing the logic board due to the age of the device.

I would take it to an Apple Store and let them run diagnostics to see if it really failed
