Prevent Win 10 TP from upgrading

Recommended Posts

On my main (desktop) PC, I dual boot windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 10 TP Build 9879.

I want to install the two previous builds (9860 and 9841) in separate VMs.

I do not want these two installations to upgrade themselves to newer builds, automatically or otherwise.

Is there a way to prevent them updating to the newer builds?

If possible, I would like them to receive the normal updates via Windows Update.

I have searched the Internet for this, but have come up empty.

My friend told me this trick, but I have not tried it, please post if it works: :)

You couldn't do it in the running 9841/9860, so in WinPE(or another OS if dualboot), goto WinTP drive, Windows\SoftwareDistribution, change name of folder "downLoad" to whatever name(you might need to take ownership), then make a new txt file, name is "DownLoad"(without the .txt), then it won't auto-upgrade.

Thanks. I will see if this works and report back.
