LG looking to compete with Microsoft's Surface, plans new hybrid tablet

LG is reportedly looking to make some waves on the “convertibles” market next year with a new tablet featuring a detachable keyboard.

If that’s starting to sound familiar it’s because you’re thinking of Microsoft’s Surface and Surface Pro tablets, both of which function as a super portable tablet that can transform itself into a fully-fledged laptop for real work.

The news about LG’s upcoming plans was reported by CNET who are quoting internal sources. According to this same report the laptop/tablet hybrid will be powered by an Intel fourth generation processor and will feature SSD memory for storage and portability.

This isn’t the first time the South Korean company has tried to make a name for itself in this new hybrid market. LG has previously launched two generations of the Tab-book an interesting form-factor with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. However the Tab-book failed to gain traction.

There’s no word on when LG’s new device may launch. We might see it as early as next year’s CES, or the company may be waiting for the launch of Windows 10 closer to summer 2015.
