Best version of Office to put on an older laptop


Question

I have an older laptop that I am rebuilding with an updated hard drive and new ram.  It should help it last a few more years.  It is a Dell vostro 1500, C2D 1.4ghz with 4gb ram, and a new 500gb hd.  It has win7 pro on it.  I own legit keys of Office 2007, 2010, and 2013.  Which version will run best on it?

Office 2010 FTW - use it on my machines that are screaming fast, and would use it on an old clunker - the best office software there is.

2007 might run better, but with a C2D and 4GB RAM - its not like that is some old underpowered "made for linux" piece of crap.

Those specs are just fine for Office 2010

If you are going to be internet connected just use office.com and use the Microsoft office web apps. If you aren't tied to Microsoft libre office has a more efficient footprint.

Google docs

 

The online versions of Office run circles around any of Google's offerings. Why even bother with that when you have the "real" Office for free?

Those specs are fine for any office suite out there, just pick whichever one that suits your needs.  Got 2010 running on an old junker XP tablet, your system will have no issues.

I'm not biased or anything, but why not 2013?

And while 2013 has several online-integration options (notably to Office Online) they are just as available in earlier versions of Office (going back to Office 2007, in fact), the bigger issue is whether you need x32 add-in or plug-in support, as the x64 versions of Office 2010/2013 don't support x32 add-ins or plug-ins.  (However, since I need no non-x64 add-ins OR plug-ins, I have standardized on Office 2013 x64 on both desktop and notebook.)

Convolutely forefoot about the only be version of Office, also a good option. Realistically you won't be using submerging that olds for any real productivity, so any online based suite should do

I guess I am biased. I had to use Gdocs for few university projects, and sorry, but those web apps are just awful compared to the Office ones. Never has an Office-like app frustrated me so much. I've been more productive writing in Notepad than there.

I do need the 32bit version as windows is 32bit.  The reason for this is that there is a printer that belongs to this laptop that HP never put out a 64bit driver for and will not work in win7 64bit.
