2.1 Speakers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am in the market for new 2.1 Speakers. I have had the Logitech Z2200 THX for almost 15 years now, but they are slowly giving up and dying. So, I am looking for another 2.1 set of speakers to replace them.

I have found the Logitech Z623 which look very nice. I like having the buttons on one of the speakers, as it doesn't require an extra control lying around.

Creative seems to have a lot more options for 2.1 systems. The GigaWorks T3 looks good, or the T4 being Wireless. I can imagine having no wires to mess with could be nice too.

I wanted to ask you what experience you have with 2.1 and if there is a specific model that you would recommend.

Thanks very much!!

Andr?

I have always bought 2.1 speakers from Creative and Cambridge Soundworks and am very happy with the quality, currently have 2.1 Digital "Megaworks" THX 250D Cambridge Soundworks for about 7 or 8 years, couldn't be happier (my neighbours would disagree though :p)

Yes, before I had these from Logitech I was a big fan from Creative and the Cambridge Soundworks. Small speakers with great sound. I'll have a look at their current offers. Thanks!!  (Y)

I've got tje logitech z3, they're ancient now, but still strong,

If you're into JBL, you might want to look at the harmon kardon,

Personal preference, if money was no object, Bowers and Wilkins MM1, but those aren't 2.1

That is a good choice. I have those speakers, really great sound and bass.

I vote for the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers.  They are very very loud and will rattle your walls.  I had the 2.1 system for a couple years and then upgraded to the 5.1 which I currently have. They sound great.

Thanks for your suggestions!!

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 look very nice, I'm going to try and find them in a store this weekend, the same with the Creative and Logitech. I think the MediaMarkt here might have them.

I don't like their aestethics (both JBL and Bowers and Wilkins), and they are a bit on the expensive side.

I'll try and find them in Germany, but so far the usual shopping sites I use don't list them. I'll keep looking.

A little off topic.

I just did a repair on a set of Altec Lansing ACS45.2 from way back. Seems they all had bad PT2256 volume control IC's and fail to turn on. $5 replacement IC and I swear they sound better than when I bought them in the 00's.

I have the Altec Lansing ATP-3 speakers since about 10 years or so and they're still pretty solid and sound incredibly good and loud. They are discontinued now, but I wouldn't buy any other speaker system without first trying out some Altec Lansing ones. I'm positive they have much better systems now.

Wow, I haven't heard that name in a really long time. But you are right, I remember many years back that they were a big name. Looking at their website though, I don't see any PC Speakers. It seems that they are now into the portable speaker market.

Yep, seems they changed their business strategy. Too bad, they were great.

I also recommend the Klipsch Pro Media, have had my set since 09, had to replace the control pod and nothing else, rattles the walls and since THX certified, movies sound darn good, they would sound even better if I bought a proper sound card, but don't think the neighbors would be too thrilled about that

I've seen the Logitech and Creative speakers at the store, they have a good sound. The Klipsch Promedia I can't find anywhere yet. Even online I can on ly find them on the german Amazon.

I've seen that the Klipsch also come as a wireless version. Does anyone have experience with wireless speakers? Are they prone to interference or does that work well? I'm not going to have a big setup, just a subwoofer under the desk and the satellite speakers on either side of the monitor.
