No way to toggle to Full site in Chrome on Android

Recommended Posts

I may be totally missing something, but on Android, Chrome, latest version, if I hit "Request Desktop Site" it refreshes and goes right back to the mobile version.

And nowhere on the mobile homepage is any link or method to make it "Full Site" or show the Desktop version.

All that feature (Request Desktop Site) does is toggle the user agent string sent with the request. On sites that determine what to present based on the browser width (which is the way Neowin seems to do it) it will not have any effect.

In Chrome, on the upper right press the overflow menu, scroll down

That's it.. and some social media icon links.

Yeah I believe you are right, there has to be a way to turn off the auto-responsiveness though if I want the full site. Or maybe it can be added in.

He means the menu on Chrome itself, the one that let's open a new tab, go to settings, etc. There's a "Request desktop site" button. However, it doesn't usually help on my tablet. I use a file that forces chrome to use desktop version for every site. If you're interested in that I can help you out.

Edit: here's the link to the file on XDA. It just changes the user agent to something else. Again, this forces it for all sites though.

Yeah that Chrome option doesn't work, it was the first thing I tried. I think the devs should look at putting in a static link that will load the site in Full mode if users want that.

The site is responsive and adapts to the size of the screen you are using. Like it or not this is the way the web has been going for some time.

The reason the menu option doesn't appear to work is because the site is always in "Desktop site mode".

In the website footer is a link to toggle between the desktop and the mobile theme :p

Not on mine, DCMA, Terms of Use, and Privacy. with a link to go back to the top. That's it.

That is just for the forum.

Whoever handles it would need to provide a way to disable the media queries to get what you desire.

The idea of a responsive design is that everything you would want from the "desktop" version is available in the "mobile" version, because they're exactly the same. All that changes is the way it looks.

What's missing from the mobile version that you want to access from the desktop version?

I want the community activity from the front page on my mobile phone as that is what I always use.
