Newegg Infection

Recommended Posts

Check this out guys.  I was browsing items on Newegg. All the sudden, I get this.

It says: "You have chosen to open:"

from "https://www.youtube.com"

While I was not at YouTube site, the download was initiated from that site.  But in reality I was browsing Newegg.  What do you guys think of this?  I don't have any Adobe product (Shockwave/Reader/Flash) installed.

Scroll down the page, there is review on the item that looks to be hosted by YouTube.

Why it's trying to download, I can't tell you, but that's where YouTube comes into it.

Badly written script, usually it would be embedding those videos on the page, a good number of them have videos from the manufacturer on them. With Flash disabled most pages will just skip over that, but on this one, even with Flash enabled it tries to download it, just looked up that page you're viewing.

In this particular case: https://www.youtube.com/embed/5PMMPtKPIVU?cc_load_policy=1&modestbranding=1&rel=0
