Texting between iOS and Android emoji not working

Recommended Posts

I have an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.1 and two friends who are on Android 4.4.2. Back when I had my iPhone 5 on iOS 7, we could always see each others' emoji. We don't use emoji in texts very much so we don't know when it happened, but now they come up on my iPhone as question marks. I figure either KitKat or iOS 8 broke something. I am using the default iOS emoji keyboard.

One friend doesn't get an error message but the other gets the error "Message may be corrupted on recipient device. Chnage input mode to automatic." They can see my emoji fine. Is this an Android problem or an iOS problem? Is it a known issue? Is there a fix or do I just have to wait for a patch?

If the android phone sends an emoji to another android can they see it? How about iOS to Windows Phone or vice versa?

Yes they can both see other Android emoji fine. I don't know anyone with a Windows phone so I don't know about that.
