Windows 2012 R2 on IBM 3850 M2

Recommended Posts

I know its not "supported" by IBM Matrix etc but we are geeks. Has ANYONE manged to get Windows 2012 R2 installed on these IBM Servers. Its not as if they are not powerful enough (Xeon,64+ GB RAM etc) so it must be drivers to blame. It just WONT install!!!

I had a similar issue with an HP Workstation of the same era.  I found it was because the early Xeon processors don't have PAE, NX and SSE2 support which excludes them from being able to run Windows 8.1 and Windows 2012 R2.

Might be worth running CPU-Z or similar on an OS that does work to identify if this is the issue in your case also.

Ahhh that might make sense. I will have to check that but I wasn't told that this came up with an error as it suggests in the article link you posted. I am leaning towards the RAID card been the issue here as it wont detect the disks.

You might find it will take 2012 but not R2. Both board firmware and CPU need to support NX bit and have it enabled if that's what is causing your issue.

Just wondered if you made any progress on this at all - was it processor/motherboard or something else entirely?
