Looking for a new game

Recommended Posts

I have a Galaxy 10.1 tablet and am looking for a new game to play. I have Boom beach, The Simpsons tapped out and PvZ2. I'm open to anything that has some lasting appeal (something that has continued playability) Please suggest some! :)

Modern Combat 4 and 5 are awesome!! If you like first person shooters.

Console and pc quality graphics and gameplay. Absolutely incredible games.

I'd actually pay for the Windows 8 version of Modern Combat 5 if I knew for sure it'd work with my xbox one controller.

Although I do have a touchscreen on my laptop, I would never play it that way on it. I don't touch my screen, its a laptop, not a tablet.

I actually have two games that I'm playing in Android (one on a virtual/emulated tablet, and one on a real tablet due to issues with emulators and ARM code).  The former is Game of War - Fire Age; it does sound like a clone of Stormfall: Age of War, the long-time Facebook standout, but it's not - it started as an iOS game (and it has no connection to Stormfall developer Plarium Global).  One quibble - like all too many games, it demands to be played in "phone"/portrait mode.  However, the biggest ADVANTAGE is that it's neutrally-coded - it doesn't require ARM (or even ARM translation) and even works with VESA (the default fallback if you can't get OpenGL to work).  If you have any Android emulator with 1 GB of RAM or greater, add this to your gaming library (it's on Google Play).

The second is a game I originally ran into on iOS, and has now come to Android - Plarium Global's Total Domination: Reborn.  It has a reworked mechanic from the browser-driven original TD, and a recent update substitutes General "Tornado" Winters with his tougher-than-Valkyrie-armor middle daughter as your tutorial advisor (you still get mail from the good General - he's not gone; he's simply much busier).  It's still TD: Reborn, however, and it's still at least as much fun as it is on iOS   Unfortunately, it DOES require ARM (and has issues with ARM translation in every Android emulator I've tried it in) - that means it's only for real tablets, for now.  In a twist on the usual rotation metric, this game is aimed squarely at tablets (and LANDSCAPE mode), and looks gorgeous on a SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab 2 (I'm looking hard at the successor Tab 3 - it WILL make the shortlist if Lollipop will be available as an OTA upgrade for it; Lollipop availability is a must for any Android tablet I buy).  TD: Reborn is also available via Google Play.

I've recently got in to Clash of Clans with a couple of friends. Free to play, although you can pay money to get more gems, which allow you to speed up upgrades and such.

Another game that I enjoy is Godville. Although it's not exactly a game that you play, you're basically watching the game play itself.

Freeciv is a free Civilization type game. Some people are put off by the graphics, but I find it a good way to pass the time.

Ingress is good fun if you like walking. It uses your GPS coordinates, so it can be a bit battery-hungry.

Breach and Clear is a decent strategy game, setting up the turn of your soldiers and seeing how it plays out.

Finally, XCOM. If you've played XCOM on the console or PC, this is the same version basically.

I'm going to try out Modern Combat.

(Sorry if this post seems disjointed, I'm dealing with a cold and can't think straight. :()

I wanted to like Clash of Clans - however, it has too many issues in emulators (it may be like TD: Reborn - real ARM only), and discovered God of War: Fire Age as an alternative.  (I pointed out that I was familiar with TD: Reborn from playing it on an iPad - being able to play on the much more affordable Android, and losing exactly nothing, very much sealed that deal.)  And there is something with both GoW and TD:R that Clash of Clans lacks - cross-platform battles (between iOS and Android players).  With GoW being truly neutral (even Android on x86 can run it natively), the field is therefore wider-open.

More gaming fodder - TD: Reborn has been updated to use less RAM, which is a decided plus for all Android platforms.  Surprisingly, BlueStacks was the biggest beneficiary of the memory diet.  (I launch it standalone from the Apps folder - it creates a shortcut on the desktop for it.)  Also, Facebook favorites Stormfall and Magecraft have made the trip to Android (and to BlueStacks) as well.  All are available via Google Play 9and the Amazon AppStore as well).
