ady199
I got home from work this evening to find a message of my desktop to say that some windows updates had installed and the machine needs to re-start to complete the installation............my machine started to re-boot but then got stuck at a white blinking cursor at the top left hand side of the screen and will not boot Windows. I then tried to repair the boot-loader with many various methods but none seemed to work and I'm still left with the blinking cursor. I got so peed off I thought sod it I'll rebuild my desktop...so I re-installed Windows (from a usb stick) on it but would you believe the installation of Windows completed and rebooted but yet again all I get is a white blinking cursor..........the only way I can get it to boot into Windows is to select my usb drive (with the windows installation media on it) and when it says 'press any key to boot from usb' I have to ignore that message and suddenly Windows boots up. Help.........!!

FiB3R
Try another HDD? Check the cables are seated firmly first. I've had strange things going on that were solved by the wiggle of a SATA cable.
zhangm Supervisor Posted December 12, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted December 12, 2014 What's the status of the disk as displayed in Disk Management (if you're booted up in Windows) or in recovery mode? The steps to view are described here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html It's strange that the disk seems to work...have you tried chkdsk as well? Tidosho
Try disconnecting all USB devices from your computer. I had a similar issue whenever my iPod was connected to the computer on a cold boot or reboot.... FiB3R 1 Share
FiB3R
Try disconnecting all USB devices from your computer. I had a similar issue whenever my iPod was connected to the computer on a cold boot or reboot.... Come to think of it, I have this issue on one of my PC's, and a USB HDD. Won't boot if it's connected. Works fine otherwise.
