Apple Stops Online Sales in Russia Over Ruble Fluctuations

Apple Inc. (AAPL) halted online sales of its products in Russia due to ?extreme? ruble fluctuations, showing how the currency?s swings are rippling out to international businesses.

The iPhone and iPad maker stopped sales from its Web store as Russia?s currency lost as much as 19 percent today, with a surprise interest-rate increase failing to stem a run on the currency. The ruble briefly sank beyond 80 per dollar, and bonds and stocks also tumbled, with the RTS equity gauge dropping the most since 2008.

i hope it does not go back to "conventional units"  - with "conventional units" being the today's exchange rate for usd or or maybe nowadays euro, yaun or yen.

if this happens, the ruble will fluctuate even further.

The right thing for the wrong reaons.

so apple pulling out from russia is the right thing?

so please elaborate, what the the right reasons?

No need to make this political.  Just because the US and Russian govts clash doesn't mean the citizens should be shorted of the products that everybody else gets.

This is solely about money and Apple doesn't want to sell product A for price A for that price to suddenly be worth 20% less in the matter of a few hours.  I'm sure everything will be back to normal shortly when everything settles down.
