Google is giving away free movies,LotR: Fellowship to US/Sherlock Holmes to UK

If you?re looking for something to watch soon then Google?s making your decision a bit easier by offering free movies. The company began offering Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring to everyone in the United States today, India, Japan and Brazil. The first movie in Tolkien?s epic adventure series kicks off a journey that follows a band of hobbits, elves, humans and dwarves as they look to save the world from the evil forces that seek to abuse a magical ring?s immense power.

For folks in the United Kingdom, Spain Italy, you get Sherlock Holmes! This movie, based on the work of Conan Doyles, tells of one of the world?s greatest detectives. His goal? To carefully juggle his lust for a tempting woman while trying to thwart off a cult-leading baddie who somehow used dark magic to revive himself from the dead.

A few more countries are getting a smattering of other free movies to enjoy, as well. Here?s the full known list so far thanks to some sleuthing by Redditor Zatheos:

Pretty wicked.

Thanks for the headsup.  picked up fellowship.

Edit:  it says I can watch it, but when the movie begins, a message keeps popping up, saying that I must first make a payment....

Is this a one-off, or should we expect more? I dont remember what year, exactly, but Google was giving away apps for like 10c and some for free.

either way, good for them (Y)

Not sure.  Have not heard much from Google this year.  They may be waiting until closer to Christmas.  But I don't know.

they still want your credit card info. meh- no thanks. It's always fishy when they STILL want your credit card info even though you have a google+ account.

As mentioned, I also got Gravity for free a few months back.

They also gave away Big and Elf last year.

Also if you happen to own a Chromecast, they are giving away some stuff as well. I just got the original X-Men last night for free just because I own a Chromecast, plus 2 months of Hulu + for free.
Here is the URL to check what you can get if you own a Chromecast. I know any new Chromecast owners are getting $20 of Google Play credit if they do it before the 21st.

Here are all of the movies I got for free so far...
