8 children killed in northern Australian city

Eight dead children and a woman suffering from serious stab wounds were found inside a northern Australian home Friday, police say.

Police believe the 34-year-old woman found with chest wounds is the mother of seven children with the eighth child believed to be a relative.

Queensland state police were called to to the home in the Cairns suburb of Manoora Friday after receiving a report of  a woman with serious injuries. When police entered the house, they found the bodies of the children, ranging in age from 18 months to 15 years.

The Guardian reports the children were all stabbed to death.

Detective Inspector Bruno Asincar said he didn't believe there was a multiple murderer still at large and that police were talking to the woman. Asked if she was a suspect, he said officials have not yet identified any suspects and were questioning everyone who had contact with the family in the past 2-3 days.

"As it stands at the moment, there's no need for the public to be concerned about this other than the fact that it's a tragic, tragic event," Asnicar said. "The situation is well controlled at the moment. There shouldn't be any concern for anyone else out of this environment."

Lisa Thaiday, who said she was the woman's cousin, said another sibling, a 20-year-old man, came home and found his brothers and sisters dead inside the house.

That is terrible. Whoever did this is a piece of human garbage and should be treated as such. Does Australia have a death penalty? What's the punishment something like this, there?

Australian mom suspected in deaths of 8 kids

(CNN) - As Australia grapples with another shocking tragedy -- the deaths of eight children in one home -- the mother of seven of them might be able to explain what happened.

The 37-year-old woman is under arrest on suspicion of murder and remains under police guard at a hospital, where she is recovering from lacerations, authorities said.

"The mother of these children is currently assisting us in our inquiries," Cairns Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said Saturday.

"Charges are being considered ... but at this time we haven't filed any charges," Asnicar told reporters.

The children had five fathers, who are all shocked and devastated, authorities said.

Five fathers? Sure this isn't Detroit's sister city?

Why Detroit? Here in small town Kansas many of the white young women have 3+ kids, each with a different father.

Sadly its a global thing, not a poor/ghetto black thing. It's that dang MTV.

Not really a global thing, The family in the story are Torres straight islanders / Aborigines.

In Australia if you are Torres straight islander / Aboriginal descent you get lots of benefits which basically means you can get paid relatively well to do nothing so lots of them don't bother with education, have a bunch of kids for further benefits and partake in things which mess up your mind like petrol sniffing and illicit drugs.

This is a well known issue in Australia and because of the Australian governments 'sorry mentality' we are basically creating these problems.

'sorry mentality' is basically the Australia's governments need to payout T'S Islanders / Aboriginals for taking over the land and also the stolen generation era.
