jbarcus81
Well, fresh install of Mint 17.1 and am having some very strange video issues.. I don't care much for Firefox and always install either Chrome or Chromium. Well, all is smooth until I install the proprietary drivers for my nvidia card. I'm using the latest recommended drivers... but, if I can somehow show you what I see.. it's, odd to say the least.. not sure what to call it or how to fix? Do I HAVE to use Firefox? This video issue doesn't occur under Firefox.. As you can see, it's functioning.. But you can clearly see my desktop in the background.. as if the window isn't being fully rendered.. simonlang
As you say, as if it does not happen with the open source drivers, you might either stay with them or contact the developers of the proprietary drivers. might be a bug they are not yet aware of. Mindovermaster Moderator Posted December 22, 2014 Moderator Share Posted December 22, 2014 My dad had that trouble, of always "Chrome(ium) didn't shut down correctly". He's running same OS as you, Mint 17.1 Does changing the chrome(ium) theme help, at all?
daorbed9
It seems any of the recent AMD or nVidia drivers have serious issues depending on the configuration. I can't even get my Linux Mint 17 install to work with the latest AMD drivers. These aren't even beta drivers, they are more like alpha. My nVidia machines don't fare much better. jbarcus81
A little update.. what's happening is Chrome/Chromium is opening completely invisible.. I have to right-click on the taskbar and select to "Restore to Full Opacity" and all is there.. it's fine.. But I can't get it to start already with full opacity.. jbarcus81
I think I figured it out!! In the Effects settings.. for mapping windows I had selected to fade.. for some reason, this breaks the opacity in Chrome.. if I turn it off? All is well!!!!!! Should I report that as a bug?? Unobscured Vision
Try the driver from the xorg-edgers PPA. My GTX 750-Ti won't work at all unless I install the newest Nvidia packages (nvidia-340, I believe) from there.
