Malicious software has been found embedded on a number of official websites of the Afghan government, and a US firm said they have linked it to China.
Cybersecurity researchers found a corrupted JavaScript file on official websites of the Afghan government carrying the domain "gov.af".
Chief intelligence officer of ThreatConnect, Rich Barger said the last modified date on the JavaScript file was December 16, the same day Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang met with Afghanistan's chief executive officer, Abdullah Abdullah in Kazakhstan. He said the file has since been removed.
Barger said "We found continued activity from Chinese specific actors that have used the Afghan government infrastructure as an attack platform."
China said previously that "China opposes all forms of cyberattacks," and "opposes any country or individual using other countries' domestic facilities to conduct cyberattacks on third-party nations,"
