The Google self-driving car is not new. The software giant has been not-so-quietly working on this project for many years now, and as time goes on, we've been learning more and more about the autonomous vehicle, including what the car itself sees while on the road. While there's still a few legal kinks to work out, it's clear that Google is pushing closer to driverless cars.
Today, the company announced on their Google+ page that the self-driving car is complete and ready for testing on public roads. The testing will continue on a closed test track for another week or two, but the team expects to be on the roads of Northern California come the new year. Each car will still have a driver in it for safety purposes, and will occasionally switch on the manual controls until all of the bugs are worked out, but it's expected that most of the driving will be completed without any human intervention.
It's only a matter of time before we start to see these cars for sale to the public. That said, do you think that's a good idea? Are automated vehicles better than what we have now, or should some things remain controlled by people themselves?
