Monitor to buy question

Is the BenQ 24" Widescreen LED Monitor With 1ms Response Time (XL2430T) any good?

I currently have a FPD1775W from Gateway so anything would be an upgrade. I'd be watching movies and browsing the web with it. Also I want something nice to browse Neowin ;)

It really depends on what your doing some TN panels are just not bad.

Such as....?

For watching movies, and surfing the web, I think an IPS panel would be better.

There actually some TN panels blow away IPS panels.

At his price range, I'd highly doubt it. The only TN's that are better than IPS are quite expensive.

Lets not make assumptions no price range was specified.

Assumptions? Look at the price, man... He could get a better price with IPS screens.

I'd like to see actual proof to backup your claim

My VAIO has a TN display, and in terms of colour reproduction it's incredibly good.

But as said above, these laptops were a niche market and the base model started out at 1700 euros, so yeah...

Go for an IPS display. One of the Dells, you can't go wrong with any IPS Dell really.

OP should definately get an IPS

Since He said movies and browsing.

TN is only for serious gaming.

IPS nowadays have 5ms which is much more then enough.

The review you posted shows horrible viewing angles. An angle of what looks like 20-25 degrees up and down, the brightness is seriously affected, and colors don't look the same. Same with all the tn panels.

The price range is clear from the monitor he is looking at.

IPS = terrible response time for gaming

More nonsense with no facts to back it, there's a reason top "gaming" monitors have pretty much all migrated to IPS

He's not talking about it's speed. He's talking about people making claims that TN is better than TN, which is not necisarily true.

Oh ?   You sure about that ?  Or are you basing this on one monitor ?  (that seems to be a popular thing among people)

Mine is PLS ... not sure if that is good or not, it seems good, but I dunno what the LCD/LED aficionados feel.

While that asus is a great monitor, some gamers want less than 5ms and atleast 120hz. But most shoot for 140hz refresh rates, since it's the lastest tech.

A bit irrelevant isn't it given the OP said "I'd be watching movies and browsing the web with it"?  Given that, I would have thought wide viewing angle would be the number one requirement, followed by a decent colour range, then followed by g2g speed.

Isnt wide viewing angle kind of silly, as most people sit right infront of the monitor ?

I would have thought it was important as people tend to move around a little more when watching long TV shows/movies.  Just my 2 pence though.
