TDT
Hey guys. I had a talk with a friend of mine about how profitable would be to buy a car from the US and have it delivered here, compared to buying one from Europe. So I want to ask you, how much would this delivery cost? I'm not looking for exact prices, just an approximate value. Just as an example, we were looking at a Camaro and we were comparing the US price vs. the UK price, since that car is not available in our Chevrolet dealership. It's a HUGE difference. I mean, the US price is much lower than the UK price. We even have 3 (yes, three ) used Camaros for sale right here, at prices even higher than the UK price. So I want to know if a person would get that car (since it's the example) cheaper overall by buying it from US and shipping it here, than by buying it from the UK. Obviously, it's much faster to buy it from Europe, but who cares about delivery time when you can save a lot of money by waiting a little more? TDT
http://home.costhelper.com/ship-car-overseas.html Thanks, but I wasn't just looking for a quote, although it's good to know that the price for a normal car is not as high as I would have imagined. I am looking for a real experience with this, just to get an idea if it's better to get a car from there or buy it from Europe.
mulligan2k
theres a uk car show called wheeler dealers about buying cheap cars, doing them up and selling them at a profit. In the last 4 or 5 series they have imported cars from the us. They usually cost this at around

vcfan
around 2-3K. but don't forget you'll also have to pay import fees/other taxes/making the vehicle street legal according to your local laws. Praetor and Andrew Johnson 2 Share
cooky560 Veteran Posted December 29, 2014 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2014 the vehicle will also need to be registered with VOSA and go through a VIC and MOT test, as well has having a new UK license plate, all of which you will have to pay for. However I still believe that you'd be able to do it for less than the UK price is we're talking 23k vs 55k Andrew Johnson and The Evil Overlord 2 Share
eXtermia
http://www.transcar.com/ In my opinion , and I have no affiliation but I have used them for cars from USA to Germany, are very reliable. just a NOTE some shippers ship in containers, means that the moisture can build up inside a car resulting in mold/fungal growth. TransCar usually does not ship the vehicles in containers so that the vehicle remains more able to "breathe" The offer quotes right on the site. mulligan2k
Well, for the above example, in the US, the price of the car starts from around 23,700$. The UK price for the same car is almost 55,000$. I'm thinking there's no way that the shipping cost + whatever extra costs, added to the US price, can match the UK price, right? Also, I really don't understand why there's such a big difference. just remember the car will also be left hand drive
Roundpeg
I would think the money you'd have to put in for it to meet harmonization standards might offset any profits, otherwise everyone would be doing it. If you want a hard number to go by, you might try A1 Auto Transport overseas shipping. I've used them before and they're very good about giving an accurate price quote up front so you know what you're getting into.

I feel more European cars are better built too. just my opinion from experience.

And in Europe (well, in a lot of EU countries at least) the fuel cost is HUGE compared to the US. But some cars that are available in the US are really not available in th EU, and if you're hooked on a certain model you do just about anything to have it. I don't know about the build, since all I ever had was european cars and never a US car, so I can't be objective.
Rippleman
I can't speak for from North America to Europe, but from North America to the Philippines (or anywhere with a shipping port in Aisia) a shipping container is standard price of $3,000 CAD. This DOES NOT include your import taxes and duty fees charged differently by every country. For the Philippines it just is NOT worth it. They charge more duty then the cost of the car you would send. papercut2008uk
you usually have to pay import tax on vehicles which would probably negate any profit your going to make, cars in your country are expensive for a reason and it's probably because of the import tax on them. http://www.dutycalculator.com/country-guides/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-Romania/ so you'll probably be paying 20% of the value of the vehicle that your importing in tax ontop of shipping costs and anything else. any cars that are not commonly sold in your country, you have to also remember it's going to be next to impossible to get some of the parts for the cars aswell.
