Recommend me Anime

Not actually anime, but Japanese Animation...

Legend of the Four Kings

(Legend of the Ryudo Brothers)

It's ancient old now, (early 1990's) and only had 12 parts, but I still watch it from time to time.

Legend was about 4 brothers, who happen to be Dragons....

That sounds good too!

I also really really like Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra. If anyone else needs a recommendation. :p

Well there's Gin no Saji/Silver Spoon which is from the same person who created FMA. Completely different genre though. It's a slice of life comedy about a dude in farm school. Same art design and type of humor as FMA.

Other stuff that similar to FMA with the fantasy sci-fi epic journey type feeling are Chrno Crusade and Scrapped Princess.

Something more recent in a more battler shounen type (Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, Fairy Tail and Hunter x Hunter) but with a more pervy type humor is Nanatsu No Taizai/The Seven Deadly Sins.

If you're gonna watch Bleach, I would actually recommend Yu Yu Hakusho over it. IMO is overall much better story and much shorter episode count at 112 compared to Bleach's 300+. Bleach anime doesn't even end properly with the manga still going.

Something completely different from what you're looking for is Code Geass. It's pretty much Death Note with mechs.

The character in my avatar is from Dark than Black. I would recommend that too and you must watch it in chronological order... S1 > OVA > S2... or else you'll be confused of what happens in S2.

You're kinda right. I have watched 7 episodes already and I don't feel hooked like I was with FMA. And thanks for all the other recommendations. Hopefully I get to watch them before I die.

I really liked Avatar and FMA and therefore was looking for similar stuff. So I'll try Chrno Crusade now.

(And not sure what you meant by the last line! XD A bit too technical for me)

As others have said, Death Note is good (basically two geniuses playing chess with each other, one working with the police the other with the power to kill anyone whose name and face he knows), Darker Than Black is another good one (great stories in both). Another one of my favorites was Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (a genius who wants to change the world gains the power to command a person to perform his wish if he can see their eyes), is another one with good story and action (mostly with Mechs, but it's not nearly as mech-heavy as the Gundam series, a lot of action between individuals as well). As Dude said, Yu Yu Hakusho is a good one, it's a bit older and takes a few episodes to get rolling but it's good once it gets going.

As for what Dude said about Bleach, the anime stopped running before the story ended, so when you get to the end of the anime there is still a bunch of manga (Japanese comic, which most anime starts out as) left to go if you want to proper ending (the manga isn't over yet but it should be relatively soon).

EDIT: Also Steins;Gate, which is about a young scientist who discovers a method of sending objects back through time and the effects of doing so, almost no action but a really good story.

Bleach irritated the crap out of me.  But then, I'm not really into battle anime cause you spend at least half the time seeing people think instead of fight.  Bleh.

The worst thing about battle anime is they do a lot of character building and a lot of training style episodes. If you are not watching a big fight, you are either watching character-focused episodes (as in their background or reason for fighting or whatever), or them training to be stronger. That and it follows a pretty generic formula of main character gets his butt kicked, trains and gains a new power, wins the big fight in a typically spectacular way, repeat.

I meant to watch DtB Season 1 and then the OVA's which are 4 special episodes set chronologically before Season 2 which pretty much set the tone of the series. Season 2 originally aired before the OVA's and the story confused the crap out of people along with its different approach to its storytelling. Therefore people like to think Season 2 was crap and never happened. I just happened to watch the series when it was all over and the OVA before S2 which led me to appreciate it a little better.

Some of you recommending Speed Grapher and Berserk which are both grim dark kind of series. Death Note is too but I don't remember it being that gory. Not sure if OP would enjoy that after FMA but that's what they are.

I'll toss in 3 more serious type anime with excellent english dubs Baccano, Black Lagoon and of course the ever popular Cowboy Bebop.

Speaking of english dubs, I'll also say Great Teacher Onizuka and Golden Boy are two comedy/ecchi anime that are IMO much more enjoyable in english. Very funny. Highly recommened for lols.

On another note, is this your first time watching anime? I mean once you've consumed all the popular highly regarded shows by western fans. Which are what we are recommending ATM. At some point you might get bored of it and fall into the rabbit hole of watching a larger variety of genres you probably wouldn't have enjoyed... and boy that rabbit hole goes deep... Don't blame us if you become a neckbearded otaku..

I recommend checking the top 500 list on AnimeNewsNetwork. Their rating system is such that you can see individual numbers of ratings of 0 - 10, number of people who saw subbed, dubbed, didn't finish, genres and specific tags, etc...

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/ratings-anime.php?top50=best_bayesian&n=500

They list anime with different named seasons separately, but related ones are linked in each profile.

The top 10 usually consists of Stein's Gate, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Clannad After Story, Rurouni Kenshin, Code Geass, Cowbow Bebop, and some others.

I do also recommend checking myanimelist.net for which translation groups did the good subs, unless you don't find a difference between "tankwando" (Hiryuu) and "tankery" (official).

I won't be surprised if I do become one! XD

This is definitely my first TV series, though I've watched a lot of movies.

I've been exploring this link for the past hour, very helpful!

First anime I really enjoyed to the point of watching all the episodes was Attack on Titan. After enjoying it and looking for something else, I now started to watch Parasyte -the maxim-. First season yet to end, but so far I'm enjoying it. Highly recommended to check them both if you still didn't.
