Telanor
For the past few months I've been having this really annoying problem with my connection. Basically what happens is, I'll be browsing the internet and then once in a while, when I go to load a page, it doesn't load. After firefox finally decides the connection has timed out and displays it's message saying it couldn't load the page, I press f5 and it loads. This happens randomly throughout the day, on random websites, even big ones like google.com and is getting extremely annoying. I feel like I'm on some crappy wireless connection even though I've got verizon FIOS and I'm using a wired connection. I used to think it was a DNS problem, because I'd only have problems with newly established connections. Pinging 4.2.2.2 for hours on end would show no connection problems. My chat program stays connected all day long without any problems, although for a while, it used to lose connection briefly around 10pm every night. Lately though I've been having problems with playing league of legends which likely isn't a DNS problem. My ping will be around 93ms the entire match (and a solid 60 fps, it's not a performance issue) but it feels like a 200-300ms ping. That's the only online game I play though, so I don't know if that problem is specific to league or not. No one else in the match has lag problems though. I tried using Google DNS for a while but it made no difference. Is there anything I can do about this? Some way to test it and determine where the issue is so I can hopefully fix it? +Warwagon MVC Posted December 28, 2014 MVC Share Posted December 28, 2014 Maybe you have a bad modem or router.
Telanor
Meaning what? How do I test that? It's a standard issue verizon router/modem combo, so it's not like I can remove the router.
sc302 Veteran Posted December 29, 2014 Veteran Share Posted December 29, 2014 call up verizon and have them run tests would be the best thing I can suggest. Have them check the snr/db too, or at least have them tell you what it is. 20dB and below is outstanding 20dB-30dB is excellent 30dB-40dB is very good 40dB-50dB is good 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues the lower the number the better it is. remixedcat
have you done the ipconfig -flushdns? I gotta do that sometimes. Also you will need to see if it's the router or a setting on said router as well. are you wired or wireless BTW?
