PS+ subscriptions extended 5 days for Xmas outage (and 10% off code)

Nice gesture and one that they didn't need to do really. T&C's cover this sort of thing.

The comments on the blogs are cringeworthy - why do people always expect something for nothing? It's no wonder people think the gaming communities are full of geeks and freaks,

Wasn't affected by the DDoS attacks, but won't be turning down some freebies (Y)

I guess you are with the few who wasn't affected. Lucky you! haha. But that 10% off .. can I has now?

Looks like I'll be buying season passes in bulk!

Nice gesture by Sony, but they need to work on their outage recoveries. It'd be interesting to know why XBL was back up within a day, but it was about 3 before PSN was up again.

The only signs of it I had was the smart phone apps not loading. Otherwise, I was using both XBL and PSN without issue. Then again, I wasn't trying on the 25th like many others.

As I said, lucky you man! Once I heard it was down I just played some offline games. Didn't really effect me that much. It's really worth getting some games non-digitally and this is an example.

Digital games worked fine even when the PSN was offline. Sony themselves said that games didn't require an internet connection to play and they were right - providing your console is set to primary, the games you are playing are being played under the account that bought them, they are perfectly fine.

Do they email the code or is it automatically added to the account on the basket purchase? If it's an emailed code anyone here's free to have mine since I won't do digital.

Email code from what I've read

I thought there was just going to be a window of time where the PS Store would automatically discount your purchase by 10%?

Nice to see they are doing something for folks even though they don't have to. (Terms of Service state they do not guarantee up time) However, for my case at least. I will not notice the extra 5 days. I buy my subs in 1 year blocks.

While in theory they might say that, in reality it didn't work. Visit us at the official PS forums. Many of us couldn't get our games to work offline. DriveClub and KZ were problematic for most (there were others too).

Well deserved to gamers, glad Sony did this for us.

Is your ps4 set to primary on your account and were the games bought on the account you were trying to play them on?

Yes. I am the only one on the PS4, it is primary and all of the purchases were digital on the PSN Store. It's a known problem, and can be reproduced. I am sure Sony or the publishers will address it some day. Or not.

Some links would be useful, as long as a PS4 is primary games work offline. That's how the licensing works, it doesn't need fixed.

If something is up its either with your PS4 or an individual game. You can go to restore licenses in the PS4 settings if something has gone wrong at your end.

It would be at A LOT OF ENDS, not just mine. It's something that needs to be addressed for sure. But now that PSN is back up, all is working fine now.

Lots of people have been playing offline since launch. Take out your ethernet cable just now and any digital game purchased from your account or an account associated as the primary PS4 will work fine. If there was a widespread issue doing that test above would cause issues.

I'm willing to bet a lot complaining when PSN was down are playing games from other peoples accounts. Or if from their own account on a second PS4 (two in the house, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc).

My views on this...

A lot of people say we should not have gotten anything for this outage... I disagree. This was the WORST time to be down - Christmas Eve until several days after Christmas? Basically, everyone who got a new console or new game over Xmas could not play it. Sure, you can say "you can spend it with your family then" - but the point is, you cannot use what was paid for.

Not just that, but ######-poor communication from Sony and extremely slow fix time - if they even fixed anything (if you believe the whole Kim Dotcom paid them to stop story). ANY ISP out there can control DDoS quickly with little downtime, so it is useless that Sony couldn't stop it.

Sony also never compensated ANYONE for this. 5 days extension on your subscription and a one time 10% discount on their over-inflated prices? That is mental. If they priced their games the same as retail, fair enough but pretty much all their games can be bought from ANY store for cheaper than the digital version.

Even with the 10% off, you can buy the games for much cheaper.

It all feels like two fingers put up to us. Maybe a 20% one time discount? Or as others have said, something else. Even a 1 month Plus extension would have been sweeter.

Some of the games I was playing offline - but because the service was so up and down, my progress kept on resetting itself to the last online sync - which made it useless to play.

I found there were problems unless I manually signed out of PSN on the console (something which took em a while to figure out).

For example, Injustice would just hang on the loading screen - probably because it didn't have a timeout on its PSN connection.

Nope what?

You can't play offline? Still waiting on some links as well for all these people you talk of that suggest Sony have a widespread issue with digital licensing.

Seems odd that you are always having issues other PS4 players seem to never have.

I bought digital copies of PvZ, Injustice, BF4, fifa and etc and they all seemed to worked fine when the psn was down.
