+Zagadka Subscriber² Posted January 2, 2015 Subscriber² Share Posted January 2, 2015 Windows Update is horrible. That said, the specific problem I have is installing almost any update - usually anything to do with IE. The MS forums have been incredibly unhelpful. I've done everything they suggested running DISM, which I've done several times. It reports no errors. Interestingly, it does install *some* updates. It just runs Downloading at 0% for 10 or 20 or so minutes. So like I said, I followed their links, have done DISM, the Windwos Updater Troubleshooter, their downloaded Windows Update reset tool, run in safe mode, disabled everything running, followed their other suggestions, reinstalled Flash. Nothing. DISM reports no corruption, the Troubleshooter says it fixed it, the reset tool resets it properly but the error remains. I'm not entirely hot on it since I only use IE for checking my site layouts, but I'm uncomfortable with any security issue. The closest I see on their site is this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/update-for-windows-kb3008925-will-not-install/15b2fdab-a400-4d27-b13b-2f17adc829e7 Anything? Sidenote; My mother's laptop refuses to connect to WU at all, but I figure that is something on my end. Just frustrating dealing with what should be simple. COKid
OP, the first 4 words of your post say it all. One would think after all these years Microsoft could master this. Guess not. It was one of the main reasons I went over to Linux. Best of luck getting things resolved. Thing is, there's only so much one can do when dealing with incompetent programmers. One would think after all these years Microsoft could master this. Guess not. It was one of the main reasons I went over to Linux. I think WU was actually better when it was a webpage. Pretty much any Linux dist can just... update everything. In seconds.
link6155
You may need to restart the Windows Update Services to get it to work. To do this, open command prompt as administrator and run the following command: net stop wuauserv Then once that's done run this command to start up the service again: net start wuauserv Make sure that your anti-virus or any other apps isn't postponing Windows Update. JustGeorge
I think MS provides free phone support for Windows Update problems. At least they used to, anyway. Stupid question: Your bios/system clocks and dates all correct?

Martog
Considering you mentioned your mom's laptop cannot connect to WU and those logs indicate download problems, I'd start looking at something on your network like your router or your ISP being the culprit. What DNS servers are your computers getting if you run ipconfig /all
