neowin1338 Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Hello, I have a question. The network based behind a firewall generally routes the http stuff out via the proxy. Now I have a server setup in the network that can communicate to the outside without a proxy. I would like my notebook that site in the company network to communicate out via this server rather than the proxy. preferably encrypted maybe to via a tunnel to a third pc outside the network and from there freely into the wild. where would I start doing this things here. PCs are running Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2008. Outside System would run Windows 8.1 as well. First of all it would be good to route the traffic from the windows 8.1 machine inside the network via this server rather than the proxy. sc302 Veteran Posted January 6, 2015 Veteran Share Posted January 6, 2015 Depending on how your network is setup, you don't need a proxy to get out. You can communicate without putting a proxy in the internet explorer settings. However, that all depends on your routes in your network. If the final route does not route out of the network to the firewall, then you will not be able to connect out. The server that can get out would need some sort of proxy or internet connection sharing for you to be able to get out if you want to use that server. If you want to communicate out to another computer you would be best to setup a vpn where that other computer is and a vpn client on your client computer to communicate to that area securely. So to sum up, you would need to have complete admin access to the switches on your network, you would need to be able to have complete admin access to the server, you would need to have complete admin access to the remote site and the computer there.
