NeoWind Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Any of you ever experience a drop connection or slow web browsing such as "Keep Connecting" once you use P2P application? It happens once in a while and think SKY is not happy with the way i used too much their data. But honestly, i don't think that's the case since it's just how the modern internet works. In fact, once i quit P2P application suddenly all the problem gone. For instance, "Keep connecting straight away gone once exit P2P by refreshing the web page and the P2P isn't using over 100kb/s which's absolutely ridiculous. As a result, i have to stop using it in order to have seamless internet experience. I highly believe sky is throttling the internet speed depend on what application you use. This is flat out a contradict to what they advertise as "With our totally unlimited broadband there are no catches or long-term contracts and absolutely no usage caps. theyarecomingforyou Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Sky doesn't limit connections. I use Steam and Azureus without any throttling or performance issues. It sounds like an issue at your end. If your P2P app is poorly configured it can easily overload your router and cause internet performance to drop off a cliff. Aergan Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 uTorrent (or any incorrectly configured torrent client) can easily cause your own localised denial of service attack due to the sheer number of concurrent UDP connections which causes many SOHO (especially ISP provided routers) to fall over. Premgenius Posted January 8, 2015 Share Posted January 8, 2015 I've been having similiar issues on my Sky Broadband for a few months now in my case its kikely being caused by the little random packet loss on the connection (noticed using Broadband Quality / Ping Monitor on Think Broadband), having spoken to Sky support who made carried our several test and concluded it was all good. I do not use P2P but I would get the browser just keeps loading and on my mobile/cellphone it would timeout, I don't have many devices less then 3 at any given time and the connection is not even being used. As already advised you may want to make sure your uTorrent is configured correctly, try testing by switching uTorrent off completly, powering down your router for 20 mins and test if the problem persists and give Sky Support a call they were very polite and knowledgeable to make sure everything is working as on the line. Not sure what you can do about that to be honest. You can extract your username and password from Sky routers using Wireshark. Here's a guide. Then just get your own router and stick in the username and password and it'll work! If you're on fibre though you'll need a VDSL modem, which aren't very common unless you can get one of the BT Openreach ones. Mind you, pretty much the same with any ISP i've ever been with. My Sky router served as the printer's access point until I became a BT customer (now it's a Homehub).
