Recommendation for a great 27" monitor

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a great 27 inch monitor to use with a 2012 rMBP. Unfortunately the 2012 Retina MacBook Pro cannot be used with a 4K display...I read that some people got it to work with the Nvidia graphic card side at 30Hz, but I don't want any problems.

It has to be an ISP panel, 2560x1440 resolution. I don't care if it's matte or glossy but if it's matte it can't have an anti glare coating that looks dirty as I saw on a friends Dell 27 inch display which granted is several years old.

It would be good if it has a mini display port so I wouldn't need to use an adapter but not a deal breaker if it doesn't. Very important is that it has even backlight and very little to no light bleed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Would have said the Dell until you said you didn't like the anti-glare coating.  Some people do think it is excessive, but having had to sit down for hours on end in front of one I am grateful for it.

I have a Dell U2711 and I love it. I'm sure there is a more up to date revision but this is by far the best display I've ever had. This has anti reflective and I've also had glossy screens. Glossy shows dirt way more than AR. Also, don't go 27" without it being at least 2560 X 1440.

Dell UltraSharp U2713HM

Doesn't have the anti-glare coating. And is exactly the specs you ask for. I've got 3 of them and they are all great. Except mini-DP, has regular DP port.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the U2713HM and it gets great reviews and I saw no mention of anyone having problems with anti glare coating so it's good to know it doesn't even have it. I just might go with it.

Dell has excellent monitors, and unless you're willing to either pay for the expensive Apple Thunderbolt Display or move up to the professional ones like Eizo, there isn't really a better option.

The U2713HM is an excellent monitor and won't disappoint you.

Yeah I had a 27" with the glass front/antiglare, it sucked, I sold it and have invested in 3 of these, they are matte finish and colors are perfect.

I have the Dell U2713H which is the higher end version of the U2713HM and I love it.  I don't play FPS's but other games and it looks fantastic.

Reviews/comments on the H aren't nearly as good as the HM, one comment I saw was

If you like it more then whatever, but in reality the U2713HM is much better since the U2713H ghosts in movies and unless you use the U2713H's sRGB mode which can have an unfix-able green tint the colors will be over-saturated and not look the way the artists intended them to.

My roommate nor myself seem to have issues with our H models and we got them a different times.  Not saying there are not any issues, but I've been really happy with mine.

Looking at Dell's site, the U2715H seems to be the replacement for the U2713HM, price point and colors represented.  Oh and ghosting on an IPS monitor isn't really unheard of either.  If someone does not want ghosting, they better get a fast response TN panel honestly.

Monoprice has some some WQHD monitors that got good reviews. I thought Anandtech had reviewed one of them last Fall, but I couldn't find it. There are older reviews that may no longer be relevant.

I bought a Korean 27" 2560 x 1440 for $300 delivered from an eBay vendor. Samsung PLS panel with semi-matte coating. It worked out reasonably well, great color and viewing angle, zero pixel defect, but some backlight bleed, not noticeable except on dark scenes.

I agree, don't even consider 1080p at 27"

Remember, the reviews can be lied or fake....  I don't care about the reviews...

All I do is buy it and check it out, if not happy with it, I could return for refund or exchange for something else as long as they have return policy.

If you are happy with it, then it's all good.

For example, I was going to buy an item... a friend of mine was with me saying it's not good... I was like huh? really?  then I bought it and brought it home, I like it...  my friend was drooling and say "Damn it looks awesome."

I asked him, "Wait, thought you said it's not good. What's wrong with you?"

Hey, thanks for the heads up! I was kind of surprised there wasn't a new version since I was reading reviews from 2012. Good to know, I'm going to check this out. And it has a mini display port!

How desperately do you want the monitor? Could you wait a couple of months.

At the end of march, Acer are releasing a 27" IPS screen, 1440p resolution with 144hz refresh rate.

The Acer XB270HU.

Im tempted myself!
