TruckWEB
Check the spec of my PC in my sig. I'm using the last build made available by MS. Using the newest AMD driver, I'm having problem with my video card. Screen freeze every 20-30 sec, I hear the GPU fan increasing in speed, screen return to normal, GPU fan speed down. 20-30 sec later, same thing and on and on.... Anybody else with a problem like that? I'm going to do a fresh install of Win10 when the ISO come available later this month.
Gornot
Did you try installing manufacturer's drivers for 8.x or just use WU to automatically get device drivers? Cause the former might be what's causing the problem...
FunkyMike
Try: EnableULPS set it to
TruckWEB
I've used the driver from the AMD website, so it's the latest Omega driver (for Win 8.1). FunkyMike : Where is this setting?? Thanks!
FunkyMike
You need to do it via the registry or via MSI afterburner. So via regedit search for EnableULPS (UltraLowPowerState) It will be set to 1. Set it to 0 and restart, it will hopefully fix the strange behavior. I have seen similar issues on PXAI (switchable AMD & Intel) laptops with the newest drivers. Switching this setting to 0 fixed it. Your symptoms hint that it might be the UltraLowPowerStates having issues, in effect making your GPU and Fan fluctuate. However since you are on a desktop I cannot give you 100% reassurance : ) Let us know if it worked.
TruckWEB
This problem could also be found on a desktop? Because it's not a laptop that I have. Check the Win10 spec in my sig. I'm at work right now, going to check this out later tonight.
FunkyMike
Yes as already mentioned. The problem seems similar in regards to ULPS being the culprit. Only way to find out if it will work is to try.
TruckWEB
Well tried it and it's not working, it's doing the same thing...
Noir Angel
Have you checked your GPU activity in the CCC to see if something's actually causing it to spike? Also, have a look in event viewer and see if your driver is crashing and restarting because a screen freezing then going back to normal can be a sign of a display driver crashing. TruckWEB
At this point, I guess I'm gonna wait for the ISO of the "Consumer Preview" of Win10 to do a clean install. Everything was working well with 8.1, something tells me that the upgrade did harm the video driver or something close to it, even if I've re-installed the new Omega drivers. Going to check CCC and event viewer tonight. Thanks!
FunkyMike
Shame! I guess you cleaned with DDU etc before installing this driver?
TruckWEB
Well, a fresh install of the new build did not change anything. More so, I'm seeing ghosting when I move "modern" windows around and I can see that ghosting in the title bar too. Using the Windows Update provided AMD driver for my 7870. I'm starting to wonder if my video card is not having some problems...
TruckWEB
Well well, surprise! I've removed my 7870, so I'm now using the Intel built-in GPU and I have the same problems!!! And it's a fresh install...
