Dying Light

Still no proper DL thread?  Damn you guys are slackin.

I've been hooked from the moment they announced it.  They just seem to have everything I want.

Do I think it'll live up to my own expectations?  Honestly...no, but so far almost everything I've seen is top notch.

Already preordered it on my X1 since the PC specs are out of my reach.

In all honesty, I was so let down by Dead Island I can't help but look at this in the same light. Looks impressive but in practice will be pretty boring.

Hopefully they will do a demo closer to release and I can actually play it.

Yeah I'm very cautiously optimistic. I remember all the hype for dead island and it turned out to be thoroughly mediocre :/

Would you say you look at it in the same, dying, light? Eh?...Eh????

That being said, it looks like it could be fun but I'm not a huge fan of zombie/survival games personally.

You must buy approximately zero current games then.

There's many good games by smaller studio without season pass and for a fair price (i.e. not 70$ CDN + taxes). Honestly i'm looking at my Steam library and i'm almost not buying games by big studio anymore unless they are GOTY or complete version at a reduced price.

I am interested to play it, but considering how mediocre dead island turned out to be, i will wait for all the reviews before i even consider.

actually i just watched gameplay videos, and i am not certain i will like it...    it is hyped a lot though.

I was fairly pumped about this but after watching this video

I'm less interested. It looks a lot like Dead Island, which was fun but had a lot of issues. This looks like Dead Island for the next gen. I'll probably wait for reviews.

The story lacked quite a lot, I thought the re-spawn mechanic made it really easy to beat the game, the AI was sub standard and weapons were interesting but I found that they broke too easily.

Don't get me wrong it was a lot of fun, but it came with issues. Seeing how similar the two games are I'd be more cautious about  Dying Light.

During the day it's basically Dead Island, but at night it's more like Mirror's Edge meets Dead Island meets Minecraft (kinda a stretch there but eh) meets a few other games. At night it gets crazy with the fast zombie types, not to mention they can climb after you etc.

Also, the story and world building are way better than in Dead Island to me. So far anyway.

This looks interesting:

Lead Game Designer Maciej Binkovski has announced that the day cycle will last for approximately 64 minutes, while the night cycle will last for approximately 7 minutes. When asked about the short nighttime, Binkovski said "I've seen a grown man cry during the night, so yeah, 7 minutes is definitely enough".[21]

The game actually looks really good.  When I first heard about it I originally though it was effectively Dead Island 2.   Been waiting for a decent zombie game for the PS4.  Not long to wait now.  (30th Jan for UK)

Their FB page says they're having issues with the physical release in some areas and the digital release is now the 27th worldwide.

So many people talking bad bout dead island actually got me interested in it... Why was it soo bad and compared to what?

It wasn't that bad, but it failed hard to live up to the hype.

The beginning of the game was very cool, IMO. Maybe not AAA but fun and interesting. It all goes downhill from there, it almost seems like the game was actually developed linearly from beginning to end, with developers either loosing interest along the way or hurrying to meet a deadline.

Level design gets more boring and uninspiring the more you progress through the game, the background story doesn't actually add anything and the initial fun of crafting new weapons becomes tiresome.

And then you have all the bugs, specially in coop multiplayer. I don't remember any gaming session without at least one player having to reboot his console because of a game freeze.

I still find it bizarre that the X1 let you preload 3.5 weeks ahead of release.  Think it's downloading the rest tonight, though I couldn't say if there'll still be a day one patch or not.  (Probably.)

So far it's pretty sweet.  I've never seen an open world game look this real.

The daytime gameplay so far is pretty normal zombie fare.  Smoother than their previous games but still pretty much walk around and bash things when you're on the ground.

I'm still at the beginning, so I can't really tell you too much yet.  No huge surprises though other than the looks.

The growing sense of dread as you're doing missions and nightfall is approaching is unique.

Night actually looks completely real too, I hauled ass back to the first safe zone and made it fine though I imagine there are interesting times ahead.
