Lost a Friend Yesterday

Recommended Posts

So I had to bury one of my best friends yesterday. Savage my fox hound greeted me at the door on my way out to work like he does every morning at around 5:20. I petted him and spent 5 minutes or so checking all my lights and stuff and filling out paperwork before taking off. He normally follows me to the top of the driveway (500 feet or so to the top of a hill) to see me off and then runs back down to the house. He must have ran up there to wait on me because when I pulled out onto the road at 5:28 somebody had ran over him right beside our driveway. He was alive when I found him, but when I got out and laid my hand on his chest, he blinked, pulled his tail in, exhaled and died.

I wrapped him up in his blanket and buried him on Drybread where he loved to run around in the woods with me and my parents' dog Buster.

This is the first picture I ever took of him. He was 4 months old in this picture and it was also the first time I took him out into the woods with me.  Some of you guys may have seen me mention him in other posts on here, or seen him in pictures riding in the bed of my pickup truck.  It felt weird this morning not having him out there to say good morning, and it's kind of surreal seeing the blood stains in the bed of my truck from taking him to be buried.

Wow, my dog is my best friend as well, I can not imagine not having him around, even though he is a just a Chihuahua! Hopefully you will be able to find a new friend, when sufficient time has passed for grieving.

I must be blind but all I see in that picture is a gun and trees?!?

it's on the right side, unless you have such a low resolution...

This is heart breaking, he is so handsome, sorry for your loss.. I dread the day i'll lose my pets, they really do become a big part of your life, it's a shame he was taken in this way, i know it doesn't matter now but where is the person that run him over and left him?

Wow if any  more proof of dog loyalty! He waited for you!

I'm sorry for your loss...

Rest in peace Savage, we will see you later on the other side!

Sorry for the loss, sadly it happens from time to time. I have a small white Jack Russel (99% inside dog) and when outside in summer, she is always near/on the road when I am gone/comeback, I am sure this will happen to her someday too. Damn dogs, STAY AWAY FROM THE ROAD!!!

I hear ya, my dog as well is 99% inside dog, simply doesn't know how to react to cars.

Sorry for your  loss.

My brother lost his dog (ACD) a few months ago due to old age/sick.

He just got a puppy not long ago.. It's now a border collie.

I don't have any pets of my own here yet.
