Caleo Global Moderator Posted January 16, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted January 16, 2015 Recently I upgraded and installed Windows 8.1. It's been pretty good up until last night and today. Two times now I've been playing Elite:Dangerous and my system GUI (windows, Elite:Dangerous) will start drawing at like 10 frames per minute, and desktop window manager CPU usage runs pretty high. It's hard for me to do anything because it can take 10 seconds between the time I do something and the system responds, but it's not FROZEN - I'm able to move my cursor around like usual and if I click pause in a media player it does so immediately (but won't update visually for another few seconds). At any rate, I could use some suggestions on what to pursue for a possible fix. My system wasn't doing this for the first few days I had it running (could it be a windows update?). This being a new install, all my graphics drivers and OS are up to date.
+Warwagon MVC Posted January 16, 2015 MVC Share Posted January 16, 2015 Are you running the game full screen or windowed?
Caleo Global Moderator Posted January 16, 2015 Author Global Moderator Share Posted January 16, 2015 Are you running the game full screen or windowed? Borderless Window. I'm not entirely sure it's the game causing the issue to be honest though.

Was the game installed and played before or after this started happening. Did DWM at any point behave while playing game? Does it only happen when playing this game? Have you tried playing any other games?

Honestly, with so many changes having been made in the last 12 or so hours.. I can't really narrow it down myself which is why I'm here. I searched a bit for similar issues but found only one similar (unsolved) issue.

Have you tried it with the default theme? Only using a default windows 8.1 theme Edit: Dialed back my GPU overclocks to stock for the time being. Could just be Win8.1's odd way of reacting to a gpu instability. It's been good for the last half hour or so
+Warwagon MVC Posted January 16, 2015 MVC Share Posted January 16, 2015 Edit: Dialed back my GPU overclocks to stock for the time being You Sorta forgot to include the part about you overlocking your GPU Aergan 1 Share
Caleo Global Moderator Posted January 17, 2015 Author Global Moderator Share Posted January 17, 2015 You Sorta forgot to include the part about you overlocking your GPU Was running the same overclock on Windows 7 in more demanding games for over a week with no issues. No logical reason why it should be any different on win8.
