"Title" tag missing from Details Pane

Recommended Posts

As the title says the "Title" option in the details pane has disappeared. I use this a lot to organise my music and it's driving me crazy trying to bring it back. Anyone know how to bring it back? Thanks

If the above answer doesn`t work, possibly have a look at this. (Do Not Do It Unless You Are Comfortable working with and Editing the Registry).

From regedit Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations

Select .mp3 from the list and look at the key PreviewDetails.

This should read "prop:System.Music.Artist;System.Music.AlbumTitle;System.Music.Genre;*System.Media.Duration;System.Rating;System.Media.Year;*System.Size;System.Music.TrackNumber;System.Music.AlbumArtist;System.Title;*System.Audio.EncodingBitrate;*System.DateModified;*System.OfflineAvailability;*System.OfflineStatus;*System.DateCreated;*System.SharedWith"

Make sure your key has "System.Title" after "System.Music.AlbumArtist" If it hasn`t right click the key and select "Modify" and add the data (don`t forget to put the semi colon in [;]) or just copy/paste the entry text from above which is the default.

Right click the column headers, choose "More...", scroll down and check box next to "Title"?

That only adds it to the header options to sort by, thanks though.

I don't have that key in my Registry and adding it does nothing. :(

It should be there it just doesn`t stand out because of all the .System Keys before it! (if not  look under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.mp3) and change that one.

Iv`e just done a little test changing the key from "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations.mp3" and i think that is the one you want to look at.

After edit, removing "System.Title"

Ok, thank you I found the SystemFileAssociations key but to my dismay it has the exact entries you posted in both the root and local machine keys. I've noticed something fishy as well, don't know if it's related. This is what the preview pane looks like when viewing my Music library:

And this is what it looks like when viewing the folder directly:

Thanks for all the effort you're doing to help!

Sorry Kyle i`m not really sure what to suggest now! Possibly some other program has messed things up.

Perhaps from Control Panel -> Default Options -> Associate a file type -> select mp3, change program and pick wmp again. Then from control panel -> Indexing Options -> Advanced -> Rebuild

Iv`e also added a copy of my Windows 8.1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations.mp3 registry key (from a default install) so you could try adding that to your system (it will overwrite the current key) then rebuild the index again.

Other than that maybe someone else has an idea...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.mp3]

"InfoTip"="prop:System.ItemType;System.Size;System.Music.Artist;System.Media.Duration;System.OfflineAvailability"

"ExtendedTileInfo"="prop:System.ItemType;System.Size;System.Music.Artist;System.Media.Duration;System.OfflineAvailability"

"FullDetails"="prop:System.PropGroup.Description;System.Title;System.Media.SubTitle;System.Rating;System.Comment;System.PropGroup.Media;System.Music.Artist;System.Music.AlbumArtist;System.Music.AlbumTitle;System.Media.Year;System.Music.TrackNumber;System.Music.Genre;System.Media.Duration;System.PropGroup.Audio;System.Audio.EncodingBitrate;System.PropGroup.Origin;System.Media.Publisher;System.Media.EncodedBy;System.Media.AuthorUrl;System.Copyright;System.PropGroup.Content;System.ParentalRatingReason;System.Music.Composer;System.Music.Conductor;System.Music.ContentGroupDescription;System.Music.Mood;System.Music.PartOfSet;System.Music.InitialKey;System.Music.BeatsPerMinute;System.DRM.IsProtected;System.Music.IsCompilation;System.PropGroup.FileSystem;System.ItemNameDisplay;System.ItemType;System.ItemFolderPathDisplay;System.DateCreated;System.DateModified;System.Size;System.FileAttributes;System.OfflineAvailability;System.OfflineStatus;System.SharedWith;System.FileOwner;System.ComputerName"

"PreviewDetails"="prop:System.Music.Artist;System.Music.AlbumTitle;System.Music.Genre;*System.Media.Duration;System.Rating;System.Media.Year;*System.Size;System.Music.TrackNumber;System.Music.AlbumArtist;System.Title;*System.Audio.EncodingBitrate;*System.DateModified;*System.OfflineAvailability;*System.OfflineStatus;*System.DateCreated;*System.SharedWith"

Just copy paste the text and save it as a .reg file then double click to enter it.

Just thought another thing you could possibly try is from Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off -> Untick "Windows Media Player" (under media features), reboot, go back and turn it back on, reboot.

It may re-register everything back to the way it is at default. Maybe worth a try...
