Music: do you still buy physical media?

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the typo fueled subject line... Yes, but only if it's an album or single that i value as a classic or a potential collectors item.

Otherwise, no, i prefer all digital.

pretty much 95% of the time I'll buy music off Soundcloud for like $2-10 per album/s for artists that are really good that few people know of. Itunes is a no go for me and streaming via spotify doesn't yet in my country. So yeh//

Only specific bands I know don't do a single and 10 filler songs, AND the preorders have to be good, so maybe 3-4 a year, the rest is streamed via Google Play Music

Yes.

I don't buy many CD's in recent years, but only to support friends and associates. I do, however, buy lots of vinyls. In part to support the bands, in part to support the medium, and in part for piece of art that they are. I don't get vinyls so much for the audio benefit anymore, as digital is getting better and better, but I still prefer analog recordings pressed on vinyl sound-wise.

As a music consumer: Generally no.  I am not adverse to purchasing physical media if there is a specific reason, such as extras or as a gift

As a DJ: Yes, there are a number of things I still buy physically

I bought my first CD in years the other night when a small, but excellent band (Adam Ezra Group) came through and played in Montgomery.  I ripped it into iTunes and the CD has been stored probably never to see a laser again.  Today I bought one of their other albums on iTunes.

So, normally digital but on the occasion I will buy a CD.  I have been considering getting back into vinyls ... but haven't yet.

Why buy a CD or album anymore?  There's maybe 1-2 good songs on a most records.  That's a lot to spend when I can get the same for $.99 each, if not for free.

You can get CDs pretty cheap these days.  The main reason for choosing CD? Quality.  You can't tell with an iPod but you can with some decent HiFi equipment.  Streaming services have come leaps and bounds but until I can get a very high bit-rate or completely lossless via digital download at a reasonable price, I am buying CDs and ripping them myself.

I only buy physical media. If I'm going to own something, it's going to be something you can pry from my cold, dead, hands.

Otherwise I just use Spotify or Pandora. There's nothing physical, but I don't pay either. I'm okay with that arrangement, too.

Haven't bought a CD since the last century, haven't bought a DVD in quite a number of years either. I've got nothing against it, hell I got a stack of vinyl and 8 tracks in storage still, just haven't had a need/desire anymore. Don't even use CD's in my truck anymore, I just plug my phone in. Less physical space, more convenience for me.

I haven't bought a CD in a while, I wouldn't be apposed to it if I wanted something and it worked out cheaper that way but I tend to buy most of my music from the google play store.
