Route ISDN over WAN/LAN

Recommended Posts

Is it possible within the relms of normal Cisco LAN  to have an ISDN Line coming into one building, Connect it to a LAN/WAN so we could pick up the voice calls on the ISDN on the other end, In a different location?

What I am asking to do might be a bit different. We have an ISDN presentation in one building and a LAN/WAN. I want to push the ISDN over the LAN/WAN then to a router at the other end.

the telephony protocol isn't really route-able.  It would have to have the same tech on both ends.  Perhaps if you had a isdn point to point between sites you would be able to do it (similarly how it is being done for you at your point to the telco provider).

What type of phone system are you thinking of doing this to? It is possible, our Cisco CM cluster has multiple PRI gateways around the country interconnected internally over MPLS. PSTN calls are routed out to whichever gateway has the cheapest rate/lowest utilization, etc. We also have DID's incoming from the various local exchanges so that customers can dial in via local numbers, etc.

I think you have this summed up in the first sentience. Essentially that's what I want.

trek - Sounds like you know what you are talking about!! Essentially we have an ISDN presentation into a building. I want to be able to route this over a LAN/WAN to connect to a Cisco Phone System on the other end. Which will then be IP Based.

P.S I am very new to the world of Cisco phones!!
