Looking for a new mouse

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for a new mouse to replace my Logitech Zone T400. The mouse is still working, but the problem is that over time the matte plastic on the mouse buttons have now worn out and it has become glossy and more prone to finger oil. I'm looking for a mouse that:

  1. Won't get worn out like my old mouse
  2. Wireless (doesn't matter if it's Bluetooth or uses a receiver)
  3. Compact and easy to take on the go
  4. $30 or less

I only need a basic mouse that's good for web browsing, light gaming, and image editing.

Isn't your mouse still under warranty? I RMA'd my Logitech G4, that had a faulty right-click. Wouldn't move, think there was a spring problem. They didn't even want it back. They just sent me another, this time a G4 v2.

I use several M305 and M315 mice around me. I do have to warn you though. If you have large hands, this is not a mouse for you.

It's out of warranty now, it's served me for well over a year before it started showing some wears.

So far the M305 looks like what I'm looking for. Have you had any issue with the plastic getting worn down and becoming glossy?

I had the problem of the wheel not running on one of mine, but that's just sitting on the shelf now. I had my first one for 2-3 years now, and it has really been nice. The plastic is just good like day one. The rubber feet fell off in 2 spots, but it works fine. Also the side rubber is a little hard to clean, but use a damp towel, and you'll be fine.

Edit: Oh, and the battery on it is living up to about 3 months. Mine only takes one AA, so not really a bear.

at that price - who cares ?  just get something - not like you need anything special -

Fair point, but I rather have something that's going to last for quite a while. As a graphic designer I use the mouse for long sessions, so having oily slippery buttons isn't a great experience. I currently have to wipe my mouse fairly often so I rather just not have the issue in the first place.

Personally I'd spend a little more for a better mouse;  I've had plenty $30-40 mice crap out due to bad switches after a year or so, also had one over $110 crap out early too.  Went with the Logitech G602 and loving the thing.  Good battery life (been getting ~2 months or so), comfortable, fast/precise, programmable without an absurd amount of extra buttons, and the switches are rated for 20 million clicks.  Great mouse without spending a fortune on it, any some of the high-end mice aren't that great either.  Extra buttons tend to play nicely in a *Nix environment too.. my old RAT 7 was a pain in the ass having to manually edit the X config file so it would see the buttons without "locking" the desktop environment, rendering the mouse totally unusable until restarted.  Pay a little more now versus being in the same spot this time next year having to buy yet another one.

I have small hands and was using a Logitech mouse with my laptop but the battery was draining so often I had enough. Since I love Logitech mice I found one at office depot for 12.00 and the battery lasts up to you a year.

Small but big enough for my hands and smooth. I love it! M185 is the model

Sounds ALMOST like the V220 Cordless (also from Logitech).

I call it the Wonder Mouse because it's wireless, at home on any hardware that supports standard USB ports (from tablets to desktops), and  (unlike all too many Logitech mice) can use standard drivers (or even Microsoft Mouse drivers - such as the Mouse and Keyboard Center).  (My biggest peeve with all too many non-Microsoft mice is that they got all gussied up with requiring proprietary software - in or out of Windows; the V220 has no need for any of it.)

I didn't buy the V220 for a portable computer - it predates my notebook.  (In fact, I bought two of them - to go with the two Microsoft Wireless 6000 keyboards - for desktops.)  I've seen quite a few others, too - mainly because they are not only utilitarian, they pretty much Just Plain Work.  (They take a single AA battery - either alkaline OR rechargeable; now that rechargeables are making more sense, I'm likely going to shift all my battery usage to rechargeables.)

I should mention that the M185 only uses one AA battery whether Alkaline or Rechargeable. Don't need any drivers either.

I just plugged in the Nano-Receiver and turned it on. Windows 7 recognized right away and it just works

Yes that is what drew me to it plus for only 12.00!! I love the look and feel. Fits great in my hand and is quiet for the most part. I don't feel the lag like the other nor hand fatigue which can occur and that was starting to happen with the last one but to change the battery every month, sometimes twice is crazy!

Another thing I notice is that the laser light does light up when you pick it up. Sometimes i dont know if it is on or not but is has built in sleep mode when the mouse is not in use. Basically they made it so that it can use as little battery as possible that in my book is a great thing!
