Windows 10 Build 9926 0xC1900101-0x40017 Install Error

Recommended Posts

I have a Samsung XE500T tablet that I got from At&t back when it was launched (I know, it is a little old at this point).

I was able to install the first technical preview that was released to insiders, but have been unable to install any build after that.  Every build goes through the whole setup, then on the final reboot it'll rollback to my previous Windows install and give me the error 0xC1900101-0x40017.

I've posted this in a few forums and everyone points it back to being a driver problem, but no hints as to which driver.

I've tried upgrading from Windows Update and from an ISO on a USB stick by running setup.exe in Windows.

I've tried running SFC, DISM, installed all Windows Updates, Disk Cleanup, delete temp files & prefetch files, disabled Windows Defender AV.

Last night I tried going into Device Manager and disabling different drivers before install.  I've uninstalled the graphics driver, disabled NFC, Bluetooth, Wifi Card, EM7770 (the LTE driver I think), front & rear cameras.  I don't have any peripherals attached, no SD card in during install-only the USB stick.

Any other ideas?

I finally got 9926 installed by disabling random drivers.  The problem was the audio drivers.  SoundAlive which appears to be Intel SST Audio Device WDM and Realtek HD Codec.

Any ideas on drivers to try since I have no audio now?  When I try to install the Samsung ones it gets stuck in a boot loop just like it was during the upgrade.  Nothing is found in Windows Update either.

Do you know which driver in particular causes the issue?

Maybe something can be found on Notebookreview.

If I install the RealTek HD Audio Codec then the blue webcam light starts blinking and never goes off, which is the same thing it does during the reboot loop.  Once I reboot then it gets hung.  After installing the driver and before rebooting, the volume icon in the taskbar still has a red X showing the driver isn't installed.

I can't get the Intel SST Audio Device WDM to even install.  There's no separate EXE file.  When I try to install through Device Manager and point it to the driver folder I get an error about it requiring an interactive operation window and fails.

i had this issue with my upgrade it turned out to be dud windows 7 drivers which were freezing the installation after much searching i found the solution you need to go to gpedit.msc > administrative templates > system > driver installation > device installation restrictions in the sub folder select prevent installation of devices not described by other policy and ENABLE it. then proceed to remove all drivers including chipset and graphics soundcard everything but your network card and remove all the software form add/remove programs and also totally uninstall anti virus i uninstalled everything just to be sure all programs and such when you have the files downloaded to upgrade start the process without any usb devices connected i found even my mouse and keyboard was stopping it (no idea why) if you have ps2 mouse/keyboard and no touch screen then leave them plugged in. when the pc reboot disconnect the network device from the network as i found with internet it slows down the install alot i hope this helps.

then disable same thing from gpedit.msc

9926 is a old beta build, and this topic, are from around 8 months ago.

Isn't this irrelevant now, David?
